I push the timing gear as far back as it will go; it slides into the keyway very easily.

But it doesn't go back far enough for the CPS pickup to sit above the vain. Additionally in order for me to get the height of the pickup at the same level as the vane, the holes for the assembly are about 1/2" above the holes in the housing.

Something is seriously wrong.

Also, my crankshaft seal sits flush with the housing, I can't push it back any further.

Do you use 2" inside diameter piece of PVC pipe or a 2" outside diameter.

Thanks.

So even if could pushed the timing gear further back the CPS sensor won't sit above the vain.

Can someone advise?

With a picture, yes.

Try to line up the crank gear with the cam gear. If it's not lined up, the crank gear is not on far enough.

You didn't put the washer on first did you?

..and the "outside" surface of the dampener should extend only so very slightly beyond the "snout" of the crank. I'm talking only a few thousandths...

When the bolt is installed, it must make contact with the face of the dampener.
