Last saturday on my way up to boston for the night, my timing belt went.. more on the lines of shredded..

however, after going through many forums and websites on how to correctly align the cams, removing the crank pulley, etc.. we finally got the belt on and before putting everything else back on, we thought it'd be best to fire her up.
but upon throwin in the battery and chargin her up, i try to get her running and no spark. checked the coil: nothing. It turns over, but wont fire :( .. I've done ALOT of researching on this and we've come to the conclusion its the Crank (CPS) or Cam Positioning Sensor.. but before we go any further, just want to see if it could be anything else and also on how to go about replacing those. I couldnt seem to find it, but maybe I am out of patience now, so any help is much appreciated.

I guess it is possible the shredded belt damaged the CPS sensor on its way out. This sensor sends the spark signal to the computer. Without this signal you will not have spark.

Many times when this sensor fails your tach will not move when you crank the engine over. I would go see if your tach moves when you crank the engine over and report back.

The CPS has to be gapped properly for it to function correctly.

I would not worry about the cam sensor.

A bad cam position sensor will NOT prevent it from firing, however the crank sensor will .... just thinking about the simplest fix, did you plug the CPS back up?

Did you remove the ground strap from the rear of the intake for any reason. If it isn't properly grounded it will induce a loss of spark.

A piece of the shredded belt probably damaged the the Crank sensor slot or the crank trigger wheel. Was the timing belt guide washer installed? What shredded the belt?

FWIW, the ground strap on the intake isn't an absolute necessity. On mine, I didn't reattach that strap and didn't realize it for almost 2 days. In those 2 days, the car drove with 0 problems.

thats probably because your other ground strap(the one for the starter) is in a very good condition. Wires like to corrode from inside; combine that with salty rustbelt roads and you got yourself a weak ground. I agree that its not necessary but it does help, kinda like a back up ground.
