I've seen quite a few cats blown out of SHO's, but never going upstream. When Scott had one going out on his car, he asked me what he should do to fix it. I told him to go beat on the car for a bit, so we did. 10 minutes later, we blew it out the the exhaust and gained a bunch of power back.

I have personally seen one car that ingested pieces of catalyst back into the cylinders, and know of one other from word-of-mouth (Erik T./RStalveyAFRR).

So, it's not common but can/has happened. It probably takes a very specific set of circumstances.

I certainly wouldn't run around feeling paranoid or worrying about the 1,000,000,000 things that can go wrong with any 14-20 year old car if there weren't any outward signs of trouble.

Just go tap you cats with a hammer or something and see if you hear pieces rattling around, if you do, the cats are toasted and you need to get them off asap. If you don't they're probably fine and you have nothing to worry about.

Ive not been here long, and i recall a very long thread reguarding this, it was argued up and down. It may have been wiped out, but its worth checking into.

Just thinking out loud but maybe it's running rough has something to do with your 72mm MAF? Did you reprogram your MAF for that peticular size MAF? Where can I get one of those powercoated intakes?

yes.
My car was the same way. When the weather got cold, it would not even come off the bottom line. At all. after I changed my tstat the car ran better, warmed up faster, and the temp stayed around the middle even on the highway in the middle of winter. (this summer, when the temp was at 1/2, if i got on the highway it would drop to zero!)

some would say to change ur temp sensor when u do ur tstat. I did not though.

if you think the exhaust acts like a "vacuum cleaner" on decel, put your hand an inch from the exhaust pipe and have someone rev it and decel. you will feel constant pressure, even on decel. what a load of crap.

Inbetween the exhaust pulses are moments of vacuum.
