Anyone else have the issue of the car seeming to glide in RPM in 3rd gear? Is this a known issue with these cars? Shifts firm from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th and on up, but the car seems to float RPM without consistent pull in 3rd gear. I put an additive in it but doesn't seem to change anything for the better.

are you tuned? A lot of people have found that slightly overfilling the transmission helps as well.
No tune.... I added Lucas trans treatment to bring the level up. It wasn't low and I remember reading that guys were doing that so now it is a half quart over I would guess.

My sho was doing this and it went away after reseting the "transmission variables" I think.. through forscan. Works like new again!

Neither of my SHO's did/do what you are describing.
I've experienced similar, only noticed when I short-shifted with the gas pedal buried. Not sure if it was an issue with the torque converter lock, clutch plate slipping, or simply me shifting to a point below the stall speed of the converter. Either way, I stopped doing that and have never had any sort of slippage since

There is a transmission adaptive learn that you can clear separate of Keep Alive Memory.
A battery disconect should effectively do the same thing.
Any ford/lincoln dealership can also do the same thing.
If you can look ad PID data Gear-Rat and Tran-rat will tell you if there is a forward gear slip. Gear rat is the pcm commanded gear ratio. Tran rat is what is measured through the transmission using the turbine shaft and output shaft speed sensors. If tran rat doesnt match gear rat after about 1 second of a shift you have a slip.
I would bet a direct clutch system fault if 3rd gear is indeed slipping.

Well damn, I'll start with battery disconnect tonight and if that doesn't work, off to find a hook up at my local Ford dealership.
I don't think disconnecting the battery will clear the trans adaptive tables. Always have to service this separately from the KAM. Yes, Forscan Lite does have this service function for various vehicles, you will have to check if i is available for your specific MY and model. For some reason, they don't always have it available for all MYs of a generation.
Also keep in mind the SSM that 6500rpm had published originally regarding a hardware issue inside the trans. Direct clutch was involved I think, as JohnBD mentioned. SM105K talks about it in his build thread also. Fingers crossed, it is not that.

I found this to be true with my 14 f150. Tried to reset the tranny tables a few weeks ago with battery disconnect. Didn't seem to work. Maybe 30 min wasn't enough but I think maybe I need a software interface to clear it out.

From working at dealerships and working with the trolls that are mechanics, I would wager that if you asked a dealership to clear your KAM and trans tables during a service, they would say ok, do nothing and state that they did. I worked at a HIGH-END dealership where a tech put a ratchet extension into a plug hole then pressed the start button thinking he could slowly turn it over to find TDC. Instead, the car just kept trying to start and the extension mangled the cylinder and piston. The shop foreman looked at it, said seal it up and send it on its way.
Anyone know anyone near Indy that can clear these?... that sounds like a nightmare.
