Ok i bought a Stant Superstat 65869. This is my first t-stat replacment i have done the old t-stat didn't even have a jiggle valve but i am having trouble getting it back in what is the best way to do it put the o ring in first then the t-stat or put the o ring aroudn the t-stat and then put em both in at same time? I will go back and work on it but was just wanting some input thanks.

On mine I put the tstat in 1st, then the o-ring, then the housing over it. Do you have a new o-ring?

Don't tighten the nuts down too hard or you'll snap the studs. My car has bolts instead of studs/nuts... :madflame:

I got one from NAPA, they had several diameters hanging on a hook. Cost under $2.00. And it goes over the outside edge of the t-stat. Not really an O-ring.

Bought mine from SHO NUT. It is the updated T stat with 2 jiggle valves, and the gasket that fits around the t stat. :thumb:

Hmmm.. When I had problems w/ mine leaking a while back I ran into some interesting issues.

I had taken my intake off and done compression tests. When I put it back together I was leaking coolant from the t-stat housing. I must have leaned on it or something and messed it up enough to break whatever seal it had.

The shop that had replaced the t-stat was a hack shop. They put an o-ring in (went against the t-stat) but I found later (after busted studs) that they had broken a stud, messed up the threads, and just gooped a stud back into the block housing.

So I ended up re-tapping the bottom thread and drilling and tapping the top. I put bolts in instead of studs/nuts. I put the new o-ring AGAINST the t-stat and then slid the housing over it all. It didn't leak at all for a few weeks until the engine went.

So it's weird that I did it wrong but it still worked.
