by the way...i also replaced the front bushing on the rod.

DHMag, you dont weld the rod, you weld the metal sleeve that the rod/bushing goes through...i have a pic if you are curious as to what i am referring to...

SuperSho92: I would def. like the diagram. You can email it to me if you want. And if you have any pictures of your SHO, add them in too. :D [email protected]

The "clunk" really isnt that bad, but it's still there and it's still annoying.

What exactly did it look like when you guys found out that it was the strut rod bushing? I can tell mine is not tight on the subframe.

i was unable to tell until i removed the nut, washer, and bushing...subsequent to removing the aforementioned parts i discovered that the metal sleeve had completely seperated from the subframe

I'm confused. My clunk sounds like a rubber mallet against the floorboards when I accelerate from a stop ( at any rate of acceleration) or lift off the throttle when the revs are high or brake very hard from speed. It doesn't make any noise when revving in neutral. And I don't understand the procedure to check the motor mounts with the Parking break on... sounds a little too risky for my fragile SHO. Plus, I can't see past this damn mammoth hood!

Can't find anything loose. Has gotten worse since I put the AL bushings in ( I though the rubber ones were shot).

What welds break and does my clunk sound like your clunk?

What the clunk? :bonk:

The motor mount procedure is easy, it's just that personally I cant compare mine to any others. Just start the car with the hood open, put the parking brake on so it doesnt move, put it in first and slowly let off the clucth. Just like you're driving, you'll be able to see the motor move slightly, or a lot, from that long, small slit that the hood creates when it's open. You may also want to check your sway bar endlinks.

Another question about the strut rod bushing. Are you trying to say that the weld broke off, or that the bushing is shot? Can I just replace the bushing?

Thanks

Just an update.

I got the nut off the front of the strut rod and took a look at the bushing. The bushing seems fine but there is space between the bushing and subframe where there is a metal ring looking thing. Is this the thing that you guys are talking about? It looks like it's not flush on the SF like it should be.

Well I had the CLUNK before I put the new bushings in and It got worse afterwords. It was to the point of bad this weekend when I finally got it into a buddys shop and did a front end alingment. It went away. We tested the theroy and took one wheel out and it came back. Put it right and it's gone.
You may want to check that too.

I do need an alignment also. Maybe I'll tell them to check the strut rod too when I get it in.
