Hello all,
Name is Steve Jackson, this is my first post to this forum. I would like to come here for some help. My father in law had purchased a 1993 3.2 SHO, we have been working on it for the last year (when he gets a few extra bucks) and we have dumped a lot of work into this machine, however we have hit quite a snag..

We are doing the timing belt on it (god knows when it was last done and we want this to be reliable without issues later on) and we have run into the fact that we need/want to do a Tensioner, tensioner pulley and an idler along with a new belt, but It seems the parts are hard to get or out of production (thanks Obama).

Has anyone been able to locate the timing belt whole setup or part it out?

Does anyone have a spare timing belt cover (appears to be 3 pieces) or know where to get one? At one time, the belt on this car had worked it way forward and made a nice cut through all the covers and busted it.

How about a full engine gasket kit? intake, valve cover, oil pan, exhaust gaskets? just debating on dropping the engine, cleaning up the oil leaks that has happened over the years and going in with a newly cleaned engine.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all! And I will be back with many more questions after we get this fine automobile on the road and working all the bugs out.

The tensioner is long since obsolete. If yours still holds adequate pressure on the belt, you can re-use it. If not, you will need to find a working used one, or convert it to manual adjustment (there is a thread on the forum about that). The pulleys may or may not be available, but finding a good used one or a work-around is not as difficult there. Belts are still available. rockauto.com is a good place to look, a lot of their stuff for 20-year old vehicles is on closeout so good prices if they have what you need.

Intake gaskets can be re-used nearly all the time. Last time I looked, valve cover gaskets and pan gaskets were available.

I'll have to look in what is left of my parts collection - there is a chance that I have some of the timing cover parts you need.

I appreciate your input! I saw that website was wanting 350 bucks for a full setuo, which is quite a bit, but I guess you have to pay for the classics unfortunately. I will look into the other method. we do have 1 Ford Taurus SHO at a local junkyard, but it is an older model, maybe a 89 with an MTX. The SHO we are working on, it appears to have had the transmission replaced recently (give or take 30,000 miles) and its a damn fast runner and shifts with no hesitations or delays, knock on wood HAHA!
The junkyard SHO has the 3.0, and it seems like the cover might work, but i dont know what all differences (besides engine displacement) there is between the 3.0 and the 3.2.. It also appears the top part of the timing cover is weather faded and im guessing wont hold up due to plastic being deteriorated by the sun. I didn't get a real good look at the rest, but its nice to know that it is still mostly complete, for the engine part that is.
I have a well renowned engine builder, looking to see if there is a full engine gasket. We have been talking of dropping the engine, cleaning it up really well, new gaskets and reinstall back in. This way, it would help eliminate any oil leaks and easily spot new ones. If its one thing I hate, its spots in my driveway.

Last question for now, rear door, outside door handles..? Junkyard parts? I cannot seem to source them and they appear to be riveted on? I have to dig more into them, but they appear to be quite the project. Any leads or helpful information on those?

Thanks a bunch!!!!

the timing belt covers are different from the 3.0 to the 3.2, so you cannot use the jy ones you have found.

SHO Source will be your best bet for a full gasket set especially the head gasket.

SHO Source can help on other used parts like the timing covers.

"Gates" has the timing belt tensioner kit (part no.) TCK248.
Very good quality including the tensioner.
The timing belt has timing gear marks for the 3.0L & 3.2L.

Valve cover and pan gaskets (which are just little pieces of rubber for the ends; the rest you just seal with RTV bead) are still widely available. Intake gaskets are reusable if they haven't lost their black coating. I wouldn't break any other engine gaskets unnecessarily as they are expensive and hard to find.

At this point, I would just inspect the timing pulleys by hand feel and previous noise, as reused are likely going to work as long as any replacement you'd put in. The timing tensioner is another part we wish could be replaced, but all you can do is hoard used ones that were properly removed for the day yours gives out.

Timing covers are u-pull-it wrecking yard items, but take 1/2 of a 60k's labor on a wrecking yard car, including crank pull without starter-assist, to get off without breaking them.
