Well last night I completed my very first SHO
Front End Service on my 94 SHO. I replaced the timing belt, all the pulleys, Crankshaft sensor, Crankshaft seal, and Waterpump. I must admit that I was quite intimidated by the 3.2liter engine before I attempted the job. I read many posts in the forums here about the engine and various things that have been done by all who have posted. I want to say Thank you SO much for all who have replyed to my various questions over the past two weeks. I do not own any manuals for the car so the job was done using only the information posted here. I was even able to perform the valve adjustment as well. These forums are an invaluable tool to performing various repair jobs on the SHO and im so glad that there are people who take the time to answer the posts nomatter how redundant the questions maybe. The job went over without any problems at all. My car runs like a champ and I definitly noticed a difference in the performance of the engine.
(observations on the job)
First off,
I found that my biggest headache to be tracking down the correct parts. Im not sure if it was just that I live in Tampabay and no one here
deals with SHO's or theres just not that many SHO's here to worry about stocking parts but I had a very difficult time getting everything I needed to do the job. All the local parts stores and even the Ford Dealerships here had to order the parts that I needed. Some like the waterpump were here the next day. Others like the Crankshaft seal took a week after sending the wrong seal several times. (that was thru the deal by the way, the kept trying to send me the camshaft seal ). Id say it took me about 6to7 hours to perform the repair. But when I figure in time getting parts the car was down for about a week and a half. Reinstalling the waterpump was a lil hairy cause I didnt trust the smaller of the two O-rings that came with the replacement. I was afraid taht it would drop down off the pump as I went to reinstall it. A lil dab of KY-Jelly and the problem was solved.
Timing belt install was very straight forward as I made sure to have everything lined up before I removed the old belt. The hydralic tensioner came off and went back on without any problems or special tools. All in all the experience was nothing like I had thought it would be.
This went so well for me that I have decided to keep the car and start modifying it some. Ive also line up so SHO side work. Ive got another 94 ATX to do a wp job on. Anyway I just wanted to express my gratitude to everyone for all the posts and to the people who have replied to my posts.
THANKS SO MUCH!!
