more rubber, more HP.....
Saw this post in sccaforum.com:

"I've also "competed" with John V. when he lived in this area. I say "competed" with tongue in cheek because John V. drove a 1995 Taurus SHO in STS at the time and could kick everyone's a$$es, including me in my SE-R. He was clearly a superior driver then, and he has done nothing but improve since then. So, when I see him again, I'm gonna ask him to teach me how to drive my new Speed3."

Here's the link.

Anyone know who this guy is?

The SHO won several regional SCCA championships (but never placed high in the Nationals) in GStock back in 89 to 91.

I don't know about you guys but I'm impressed. Stock SHO winning the regionals. And that's without a Quaife.

a buddy told me that last year I think it was a guy with a 1st gen SHO won the nationals in a prepared class I think. I can't remember what class though.

Wow, I didn't know about the earlier wins. I'll have to do some research!

FWIW when I started in the late '90's with my '92, the SHO (with me, with a year or two experience) was mid-pack in G/Stock. If you look at the cars that were around in 1989-91 though, the level of competition was significantly lower. Remember C&D's cover, "America's Best Sedan!"?? Also the '89 was a couple of hundred pounds lighter!

The '89-91 Civic Si was an OK stock package, and has now become the "spec car" in STS. The SHO in STS was mid-pack locally in the early 2000's when I started that class, not really competitive with the Civics, though it was not prepped to the same level suspension wise. The top National cars in STX are now WRX and mod'd 328's, though I've proved that the car is competitive Regionally in STX. Amazing that someone built one to C/Prepared and won, you're giving up a couple of liters and RWD there!!

locally i do pretty well in CP, but i realize that nationally the car will never be competative in that class. Front wheel driv though i don't think is a henderance at all because there have been many a day and condition that being front wheel drive with a LSD acctually gives you an advantage. the problem is the lack of allowance for Forced induction. the v8s can use CP allowed engine modds and wind up with very powerfull cars. the SHO just can't produce those numbers without forced induction. Sooner or later i'm gonna need to find a more FI friendly class but for right now i'm competative and i've still got a long way to go suspension and chassis wise. all classing aside though it's still impressive what these cars can do with the right settup.

I'm going to the SCCA National Tour event in Packwood this August. I will be running in CP with my stripped 3.2L '91. Hopefully the SHO will prove to be competive against all the big V8's. We shall see! :thumb:
