It happened again today...I had to make an evasive maneuver at 40 mph and the back end just sorta......got loose and didn't want to follow...and this time my wife was in the car and she noticed it too.
so...its not my imagination....
what do i need to do to get the back end to stick and not want to go' out of control' when I have to make a quick steering change???
new rear struts and springs 2 years ago
all new bushings on front and rear.
tires with only 15k
something is not right and I need to get to the bottom of this or we may end up like Bruce Willis in 'Unbreakable'

What are:
1. Tire pressures, front and rear?
2. Alignment settings, front and especially rear.
3. Anti-roll bar sizes, front and rear?
4. Bushing material in anti-roll bar end-links?

About those new rear springs; is the rate similar to the original springs?

What is the condition of the front struts if they weren't replaced with the rears?

When is the last time you had your cholesterol checked?

Check to make sure you don't have a broken sway bar link.

I had just been driving my car to work for a while(all highway) and didn't realize I had a broken rear end link till I was on a twisting country road and almost saw the same tree I had just past as I went around a curve. I was able to save it, but I went right home and jacked the car up to take a look. One of the rear sway bar end links was no longer attached to the sway bar.

oh my......
the struts are sensatrac at rear and light blue/green(unknown) on front, and they aren't leaking.
all bushings front and rear have been replaced with RCM bushings(6 mo ago)
rear springs.....thats a good question but I don't know if they are 'sho spec'
I had it done at a shop.
tires are Uniroyal Touring.
alignment...another good question.
I was going to have this done when I have the inner tie rods replaced.
Sway bars.I would imagine that they are original.
tire pressure...35 all around, checked the day before.
does this help?

I have yet to find a Uniroyal tire that's worth running - maybe that's part of the problem...

also, isn't 35 psi pretty high for the rears? I generally run 35ish in the fronts, but more like 28 in the rear. Doesn't too much pressure in the rears result in more oversteer?

the door panel says 35psi all around, I would put money on the problem being a broken sway bar end link, I had a SHO in the past that someone gave me, it was from boston. The bottom of the car was rusted out and the rear sway bar end links had corroded and were disconnected which cause the rear to fish tail and sway alot especially upon slowing down.

That sounds exactly like what my car is doing. Both of my rear swaybar endlinks were broken off at the tip.. It makes for a really interesting ride!:oogle:

I would bet that the "Uniroyal Touring" rubbers are a bit lacking in sidewall stiffness and transient sharpness. You got what you paid for.

Lower tire pressures in the rear would exacerbate (aggravate) the tail wagging.

new swaybar endlinks were installed along with the suspension bushings....

That was 6 months ago though. They could have come undone since then. I'd also suspect the cause was something that was done when you did all that work. Was the car loose before the work was done?
