Tail light chrome flaking

We were going to put a package in our trunk the other day and noted the chrome plating all but flaked off on the left tail light outside trim and mostly gon on the right tail light. Any body else have this problem?

I thought there was a TSB on this but can't find it. Search the forum and you'll find plenty of discussion on this topic. Eazy fix, go to the dealer and have them replaced.

I really like what he did with the custom painting on the chrome all around the car. Or, as noted take it to dealer and have it replaced.

Just noticed mine was doing the same and I washed it last week, gonna have them replaced during next service schedule. Does that trim just pop off? I thought I had seen in some other post where others had just removed the chrome trim completely.

Those tail lights are off a non-SHO Taurus. They do not have any chrome around their tails at all. A lot of folks are going that route too.

The trim is built into the whole light assembly; there is a TSB on this, mine was replaced a few weeks ago for this issue.

Mine is peeling off at some spots too. If I understand, the dealer can replace or fix this? If replaced, wouldn't the new ones peel off too within the next year or so? Do they have a permanent solution if we want to keep the chrome? thx

Dealer took care of mine without question. Parts for the fix must be in stock because they had my ready to go the next day.

Question of all of you who have had them replaced....are they peeling again??

My two outer peeled and were replaced back in Jan. Now the inner lights are peeling. I noticed yesterday that it looks as if one of the outer lights might be beginning to peel. Dealer said no worry, he'd replace them all day long as long as Ford covered them. Which I think is for the first year only. Of course, to my hassle of getting it to the dealer twice.

I'm curious if Ford or the new supplier has remedied this issue.
Funny, you see 20 and 30 year old cars on the road with chrome on plastic. Surely they can fix this.

well if my new set peels Ill just have them replaced again, and again, and again... until I hit 36k any way.

then ill go with stock taurus lights...

Hopefully this issue has been remedied by a change of vender. If not lets hope some after market tail lights. So ford can buy them for us.

had my sho at the dealer yesterday and all tail lights replaced. hope these new ones hold up.

You guys should keep an eye on the rear emblem too. The clear coat peeled off of mine. They replaced the entire chrome piece in the back even though it was just the emblem that was having problems.
