I went to OU over the weekend, and the roads there and back are very poor. When I was dropping my friend off on OSU campus, I noticed everytime I stopped, and the weight of the car transferred back to the front, I got a clunk. Also when I accelerated from a stop, it clunked. I get home and noticed when I turn the wheel, the clunk happens multiple times, maybe 5 times if i turn left, and then 10 times from lock to lock. I have had some suspension noises that noone can find, but this is different. I took it to midas and on the way there, it didnt do it at all, and they couldnt find anything, they said the right front is a little loose, but so little that they couldnt tell which tie rod it was. They said they heard my other noise in the rear, and it was that my trunk was loose and so was my bumper. Whatever, I rode in the trunk, and it is fine, its the suspension. So what do you think the new clunk is? I am nervous driving it since it did it once, and not again. Should I take it to another shop? Thanks
A good kick on the front tire can reveal cracked strut cups at the front of the subframe. Place a couple of greased pieces of metal under the front wheels and do some turning. Stick a steel rod up in the subframe alignment holes and see if the subframe moves easily. Primitive maybe, but that's how you find noises.
