I am new to SHO forum but have owned one from the time i could drive. I am a master tech in a ford Shop and have to deal with mustang lovers all day, not that i have anything agenst them but there not my thing. I think i am ready..and have the liquid cash... to supercharge my sho.. I would like to know who to talk to and what parts i need. If any one could help me, you would be my hero

Hello fellow new englanda

In short all you need is:

A blower
A bracket to line it up to your accesories. The 3 main mounting points are usually the alternator bolts.
Some sort of plumbing. Blower to throttle. If you can find aluminum piping you will be better off.
A bypass valve/blow off valve of some sort
A bigger pump
Bigger injectors. (could be tricky, but Ive heard FPS sells direct bolt ins.)
A bigger MAF meter.
A wideband O2 is important
A tuner. Talk to someone who owns a dyno.
Alot of free time
And other odds and ends.

The question is, do you want to start from scratch, or do you want to purchase a kit? Doing the legwork is fun, but for someone with some cash laying around, idk if its worth it.

I find it interesting that all three of these SHO's still have the batteries mounted in the engine bay and not in the trunk. With all of the extra piping and relocation issues, it seems like a no brainer to put it in the back. Working on an NA SHO with the battery in the trunk is so much easier. The same would be true of a blower SHO.

it isn't so much the work involved is that we have traction issues. Having as much weight on the front tires is desirable.

There is no question that the most HP has been seen from the SHOShop style kits, not that it's a better design, but it has been much more prolific and installed on many more cars, ran, tuned and tweaked by many more people.
The reason is that it is an actual "bolt on" kit that most people can install without too much trouble. Tapping the oil pan for the S/C oil return is the only thing that is not truly "bolt on".
This kit also allows an easy installation path for a standard aftercooler core, although that would not be a "bolt on" affair.
Or course tuning is a whole other issue.
Several SHOs have dynoed at over 500whp with these style kits (not that it's a safe thing to do!), and I don't think anyone has come close with the FPS kits. I think this is because most "do it yourself" mechanics choose this kit (or pieces of it) for monitary reasons over FPS, not to mention the fact FPS only sells their kits installed, and you would have to transport/drive your car to them from wherever you live in the country.
Of course, if FPS is the only one that installs their kits, then you have great quality control versus sending a kit to some home mechanic where results may vary.

Not many people have more experience with supercharging SHOs than Tony. He has massive experience not only in installing (and constantly improving) kits, but also driving and racing the cars themselves. Bottom line: He knows what works, and how to get it to work. All from practical hands on experience.

You can not go wrong having Tony sell and install your S/C kit. I also think Tony would be more willing to make a crazy HP setup than FPS.
FPS is a good option as well. Just depends on what you want.

I've driven the FPS setup a few times and really liked it. It's easy to tune and the power response is nice and linear. It may not make the most power but how much power can you get down to the ground in this car without shredding the tires anyway? The car was pleeeennty fast as it was. If I were going to SC my car, I'd look for an FPS style setup or make my own. I thought that Doug was now selling his setup as a DIY kit?

Agreed-I've started to set limits with myself though. In this case, I'm looking for a new partner...ahem...car if I plan on making anything over 320ish hp.

I could make a lot more usable power with something like a used S4 or a 1.8T Quattro.

I'm not planning on ditching the SHO; for me it's not worth it to turn it into a dyno queen. I'd SC it in a heartbeat but I'm not looking to make insane power with it. :) I'd rather get something else to mod instead. To each their own though!
