Back from the bottom - a quick question for the OP...
How much room would you say there was between the bottom of the magnet of the subs and the trunk lining. I'm looking into doing the same type of set-up with a sub that has more depth...just wondering how much room is available.
Someone earlier mentioned "IB" so I would assume that he mounted them Infinite Baffle (IB). Some subs car conducive to that layout while others are not.I know this is a very old thread but I am wondering if you made a box to go around the 8" subs or did you just put the interior trunk linear back in? I was always told that a box needs to be either enclosed or ported in order for it to work well. Let me know please.
I'll preface this with the fact that I used to be an acoustic engineer designing speakers for Harman. I am plenty aware that subs do not NEED to be aimed towards the interior compartment. It's also worth noting that you do not need the subs facing backwards in the trunk.
It might not have been where you were going but it was addressing the statement and picture about subs not needing aimed into the carYea.... Not really where I was going........
More concerned how much weight the rear shelf can support?
A bunch of miles and lots of potholes with what looks like some hefty subs could cause some serious affects on sheet metal.
Maybe something like small fender washers and bolts but definitely NOT sheet metal screws.
Geee//It might not have been where you were going but it was addressing the statement and picture about subs not needing aimed into the car
I guess that's each to their own. I wouldn't have an issue with adding a little extra weight spread out over the area of one of those wooden panels. Having designed speakers we've hung speakers and boxes from sheet metal and it's passed all the test required by automotive manufacturer (Toyota was the largest consumer for our plant). After seeing this install I might pull some speakers out of storage and do something similar. I don't want to give up space but would like a bit more on the low end.
Sooooo Lotusdriver,
How do the speakers sound?
He last logged in December of 2013. I doubt he has it anymore....
