Back from the bottom - a quick question for the OP...

How much room would you say there was between the bottom of the magnet of the subs and the trunk lining. I'm looking into doing the same type of set-up with a sub that has more depth...just wondering how much room is available.

None. The trunk liner fit with no problems, but parts of it are right up against the magnet. Any larger on the sub depth and you might not be able to get the liner to fit up in place.

Awesome job, I like it so much I'm trying to do what you did but I'm new to customization. I had a couple 10s already so I used those instead of 8s, the only difference will be I can't put the trunk roof lining back up, not a big deal to me. My question is how/what did you wire the audiocontrol lc2i to? I'm a complete noob when it comes to wiring and any help would be greatly appreciated. What color wires did you tap into for sound and for the power?
Thanks

and since this is my first post, I bought a 2010 red sho in March and I love it

Would anyone happen to have a picture of where you're running the power wire through the firewall? I've seen guys reference a factory grommet under the steering column, but can't seem to find the one they're talking about.

I am wanting to do this upgrade. Would someone be able to walk me through how to install the Line Output Converter to the rear speaker outputs on the Sony amplifier? Is it as simple as a RCA connection or do you need to splice into some of the wires?

I know this is a very old thread but I am wondering if you made a box to go around the 8" subs or did you just put the interior trunk linear back in? I was always told that a box needs to be either enclosed or ported in order for it to work well. Let me know please.

Someone earlier mentioned "IB" so I would assume that he mounted them Infinite Baffle (IB). Some subs car conducive to that layout while others are not.

Okay, So I am a little negative on this install.
How heavy are those subs?
You guys are aware that subs do not have to be aimed toward the interior compartment to work...

I'll preface this with the fact that I used to be an acoustic engineer designing speakers for Harman. I am plenty aware that subs do not NEED to be aimed towards the interior compartment. It's also worth noting that you do not need the subs facing backwards in the trunk.

In the picture you showed is that those subs are in a box (looks sealed but might have a port somewhere). In the OP do you see any sort of box around the subs? There is a difference between Infinite Baffle design and a boxed design. For infinite baffle you don't need the subs aimed into the interior compartment but you do need something that will separate the front of the sub from the back. In this case, the OP has used the trunk area as that separation. One could also use a body panel as the separation if they wanted. What you cannot do in an infinite baffle design is stick the sub in the middle of the trunk facing backwards.

Bottom line is that the key difference here is in infinite baffle vs boxed sub design.

Yea.... Not really where I was going........
More concerned how much weight the rear shelf can support?
A bunch of miles and lots of potholes with what looks like some hefty subs could cause some serious affects on sheet metal.
Maybe something like small fender washers and bolts but definitely NOT sheet metal screws.

It might not have been where you were going but it was addressing the statement and picture about subs not needing aimed into the car

I guess that's each to their own. I wouldn't have an issue with adding a little extra weight spread out over the area of one of those wooden panels. Having designed speakers we've hung speakers and boxes from sheet metal and it's passed all the test required by automotive manufacturer (Toyota was the largest consumer for our plant). After seeing this install I might pull some speakers out of storage and do something similar. I don't want to give up space but would like a bit more on the low end.
