Subwoofer Box Question

Currently I have a q-logic bandpass box with 2 polk db 12" subs. The sound is good but I don't like the weight of the box in my trunk. I'd rather mount an open air sub or two on the deck. My friend has 2 10" mtx subs. What are good open air subs for the taurus deck? How much thumping am I going to be giving up? Do you recommend swapping?

open air is not gonna be near as good as subs in a box, but if you were you could probably put one where the hole for the factory sub is.

You can only go freeair with subs designed for freeair. If you use subs that are not designed for freeair use your subs will sound like crap. The box is needed to control the movement of your subs. JL Audio makes good subs. Check out 8IB4, the 10IB4, or the 12IB4.

the subs and box dont really weight as much as people think, id rather have a good system then 2 free airs. If you have the subs, keep them if you like them, why sell them and loose all the money on something thats a step in reverse?

Just Kidding. If you want the most out of bass, stick with a bandpass or sealed. Put the right amount of power to it and your good to go. You might be looking at the most 80lbs but its worth it. In my opinion ..... Free-air is good only for highs.
