I know there are tons of guys with SFC's, and I know this is really old stuff, but out of the SHO's Ive owned Ive never installed them. So how are they performance wise? Big difference, or not really worth the time? Do they give you more traction out of the hole?

Share your likes and dislikes about them. Are there any other mods out there you guys are doing as far as reinforcing?

from me...

Even though mine are the "shorty" version, i still noticed a big difference. The car was much tighter, and the rear didnt feel too alone... if that makes any sense,...

IMO and i know almost every one else who has them, Very very good band for the buck. cant go wrong.

I've got the old Nook style.
I think they're shorties. I absolutely love them, and I wish I had done them before struts and springs and everything else. The best way I can describe them is that they make the car feel 4 feet shorter. You'll feel this as soon as you drive over your first speed bump.

4 feet shorter :laugh_ti:

Yep, car is much stiffer, and you'll be taking corners like nothing (depending on your setup). I love mine, and it improved accelleration, switching lanes, braking, well...everything. I especially like 3-wheeling up entrance ramps.

more rubber, more HP.....
Yep, it makes the Slow Heavy Overweight feel like it's lighter with a shorter wheelbase. They make a significant difference in tight turns like you see in autocross. There is less understeer and the car seems to respond quicker to steering inputs.

definately a worth while mod. Marcel (Ishodu) installed a set on my car las month, and the difference was phenominal...the car feels ALOT younger.

Your car deserves a set, Jay...

Anyone have some pics of them installed? Where the welding points are? I have an idea, I just cant imagine some being shorther than others.. Whats the difference between the shorties and the regular? Which are better?

full length run almost to the front subframe, as were shorties run to the "frame rail". the rail that has the holes in it.

FWIW, i had mine bolted in. With no problems for 2yrs...

I had shorties on one SHO and full size on another.. to tell you the truth, both made a huge difference in handling.. but I did not notice any glaring difference between shorty vs. full length in terms of performance. The benefits are definitely there for both.

The shorties however are a few lbs. lighter if that matters and because they are shorter, take a few minutes less to weld in.

I've been thinking about avoiding clearance issues while incorperating a much stronger brace for the unibody. The idea is to weld a brace onto the subframes and pinch welds, then weld onto that trusses inbetween the pinch weld and subframes all the way back. kinda looks like this...

subframe_connectors.gif

KEY:
Blue - subframe
Red - Weld-on braces to pinch weld & subframe
Green - Trusses to support the braces

It would definitely require a lot of work and fineese to work around other areas, such as cables, lines, and hoses, but it would eliminate the need to worry about clearance issues and would definitely increase the chassis stiffness far beyond just two main points.

This is just an idea that i'm going to attempt and revise...

What about weight, though? It might make the car alot stiffer, but that would be alot of steel.

Yeah. That looks to be easily an additional 200 pounds, if not more. Not to mention that your fuel and brake lines are in that area.

SFC's are about 40 lbs. One of the best mods that you can do IMHO. It make the SHO feel like its machined from a solid piece of billet steel. Mine are SHO Shop full length sub-connectors. I am not sure if Brian will be offering them at SHO Bros since they are a pain to ship.
