Is there any way to wire a input into the stock radio? I recently bought an ipod and want to get it hooked up without buying an aftermarket radio or using one of those crappy tape converters. The Itrip FM transmitter is also an option, but not preferred. Thanx.

yes they sell a kit at walmart or some sound shops, but you have to know what wires to hook up first. so you will have to pull the front speakers to see what color the wires are.

I would tag into the preamp wires comming out of the radio, that way your amps will still work. But I would just use the rf modulater, your not gonna notice the diffrence if you have a stock system.

would there be any way to tap into the cd player input? I would just pull the cd player if I could do that....no point in using it if I have the ipod. Any thoughts?

Why not just buy the FM signal thing that you can plug into it. I think you can get them for like ~20 bucks and you just tune your radio to whatever station you have selected on the FM signal thing and it plays through your radio. No wiring, no nothing. Then you can use it with any radio...in the house, other cars, etc.

Just a thought...

yea, those fm things suck. at least the few ive tried. my buddy had a couple for his ipod, and every now and then the quality would be just ok. but half the time there was mad static until you found a good spot to put it just right. but still, even then the quality was much worse than that of my cds.

agreed. They aren't that great. Plus the FM transmitter is just one less thing to have to buy. I would rather put the money towards the countless random things that go wrong with my car, like the four alternators I have been through..... Any thoughts on using the cd player input for my ipod?

the CD player attaches to the tape player through some type of proprietary cable, i assume you could take the cable apart and there'd be wires inside that you could use to tap into it, but i wouldnt know which line to tap into. some people have had success with tapping into the tape input and loading a blank tape, thus the HU thinks its playing a tape but the signal would come from the ipod. (although that was a g3). honestly, if you get a good radio adapter, you peopbably won't be able to tell too much as the stock head unit is not that good to begin with. other than that, a tape adapter is your next best option. you do realize that an aftermarket head unit in the 100 dollar range can be found with aux-input, and wil sound MUCH better than the factory head unit.

Bought and tried the FM transmitter and it works like crap. I think the quality is significantly reduced due to the fact that I live in the city. So it looks like I will be going with the tape adapter. I am also considering buying an extra stock radio to mess around with.

My girlfriend likes Ipods so I have used them a few times. The FM transmitter seems okay for her. Shes uses the AirExtreme but it does cut out at times. I bought for myself a Kenwood Exceleron CD unit. and it has RCA inputs for the ipod. The sound quality is excelent and well worth it.

I dont see the point of keeping a stock stereo as the quality isnt very good at all and any new stereo will be much better then stock.
