stock memory and volume buttons

Am I correct to assume that when I swaped my stock head unit for a aftermarket cd head unit that the factory meory and volume control buttons are now useless? If so no big deal, I got a lazy mans stereo with a remote control, like its a far reach to the radio in a SHO!

www.crutchfield.com has a little thing you can buy to wire in to retain those button's functionality. Personally I can't see the reasoning to justify the expense, but to each his own

Is this the piece that crutchfield makes? It says ONLY the steering wheel controlled stereos, doesnt mention anything about the dash mounted ones. I may want to ge this for my car, but again the price is pretty high. IS this the one?

Doesn't matter whether or not it is in the steering wheel, dash, headliner, etc... That will work.
