I am having a starting issue since installing the engine/trans back into the car. I had to change the TC seal and trans pump shaft.....while out I changed the front and rear crankshaft seals. Now that all is in, when I try to start it, it just clicks. I tried jumping it with a running car and no difference. I did remove the starter wires and then the starter while mating the engine and trans back together. Maybe a starter wire is wrong???? I will say, that the rear main seal was very tight, but it did go on. I have rotated the engine by hand so that I could put the TC nuts on, so I know it's not locked up...

Any ideas???

What about that V8 email list? What happened to it?

Sounds like you may have mixed up the bolt and the stud that secure the starter to the tranny. If you put the bolt in the top and the stud on the bottom, the stud can catch the side of the torque converter just enough to keep it from starting. Make sure the bolt is on the bottom, and the stud with the ground wire is at the top.

I've not been on the aforementioned email list for well over a year, so I can't tell you what happened and don't care. I can tell you that not being on that list, my life is no less fulfilling as a result. In fact it's probably more enjoyable since I don't have to endure the same inane arguments about gas tank capacity and file attachment limits, constant reports on alleged cam failures for some imaginary count for a lawsuit that will never go anywhere, and fatuous platitudes ("good form, sir"; "you're dismissed, sir") over and over and over again. If you want additional technical advise you should try the V8SHO Google group where everyone is free to say what they want and there is a far more fun-loving approach to things: http://groups.google.com/group/v8sho/topics

As for the list, I skim over the subjects and end up deleting alot of the stuff. The advantage is that it goes to peoples email and most are quicker to respond, which is helpful if your stuck and need immediate help.

Now the starter....you pointed me into the right direction. The stud is in the right spot. BUT, it is missing the ground wire. When I read that, it hit me that I couldn't recall putting the wire onto the stud. I have to get to that on Tuesday, during the day. Where does the other end of that wire go to? I just need to know where to track it back to if I don't see it right away.

Thanks!!

It goes right from the negative batty terminal to the stud. It's part of the batty harness, so it should be flailing around right nearby the starter.
