I just bought this 91 SHO lastnight. Jumped it at the lot and drove it home with no issue. Got home and shut it off to check oil and everything, went to start it no luck. Put my battery charger on it and it pegged the gauge on it and it started clicking (the charger) like it was getting feedback. Put some jumper cables on it and as soon as i touch the terminal on the SHO with the second jumper it bogs down the car thats jumping it, majorly and throws sparks bad.
I have followed lines, wires and connections to no end. I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just had to buy this car against my wifes better judgment and as soon as i got it home it died taking up space in our drive way. Needless to say I am sleeping with one eye open till this is resolved:)

Maybe your battery is shorted internally. Might be worth getting it tested before you try anything else and damage other things.

ya, im going to pull the battery. Just didnt make sense, it jumped and started fine.
When I put my charger on the battery I didnt hit the switch and had it on a 6volt charge for a second, could that have done anything to the battery?

No, under voltage shouldn't hurt it. The major grounds coming from the battery go to the Passenger side shock tower, firewall behind the shock tower and the intake manifold bracket buried back there. There's a bunch of other small ones on the inner fenders within the engine compartment as well.

To check if it's your regulator or alternator, get it started again, then put a voltmeter on the battery and see if you're getting around 14 volts. If it's above (15+), then it's definitely your regulator, if it's below (12-), it could be the alternator itself isn't charging. between 12.5V and 14.5V is the normal range, but you should see the upper end of that when it's charging.

when the charger clicks like that, it means that the battery is drawing too much current for the charger.

when you attach the jumper cables and the other car pulls down like that, it means it is drawing too much current.

either the batter is shorted or you have another serious short in the wiring somewhere.

Battery was good, unplugged a few things the prior owner installed and charged it the next day it started right up and has since. Not sure if what they had hooked up was causing a short somewhere or not.
The other issue is it seems to be lacking in power and it kind of surges on hard acceleration. Any ides there? Replaced spark plugs and fuel filter. Runs better but didnt fix the accel problem.
