starter going crazy!

just yesterday my friends shos starter keeps starting even when the car is off and the key is out, i cant drive the car at all, i just put in a new autolite starter and it was working fine for about two weeks, Please help.

Wow, thats freaky. Maybe some wires are worn and touching...cant say which ones. Just trace the wires from the starter to the batt. and ignition, so on.... good luck!

Either what Kegel said or a bad ignition switch.

Nothing else in the circuit that could supply power to the solenoid. I'd bet on a worn out ignition switch, myself.

solenoids rarely go bad, especially the fender mounted ones the Gen 1's have...

Id say it's a bad ignition switch as well.

well, tally that one in the books :rolleyes:

A solenoid is quite a bit easier to replace than an ignition switch thumbs_u

BTW... did you put a test meter on the solenoid or did you just replace it?

All we did was replace it, and the other one got thrown into the street.....thanx to SHOman24v. thumbs_u

FWIW, the solenoid in my '90 failed on me two months ago. I've had them fail on other Gen1 Tauri I've had too. They do go bad, I'd say more often than ignition switches. I've never had an ignition switch go bad.
