Ok, my car started last night, but it ran like it was out of timing. It acted like plug wires were swapped, and the tach worked at first and then turned off. The tach is ran off of the crank sensor, correct. I'm running out of ideas and the guys at work are having bets on what it is. What other timing related issues may contribute?

The TACH is run off the DIS (signal is named IDM).

The DIS module requires both the PIP and the CID signals to properly generate IDM.

For the poor running, verify spark plug wire routing (use SEARCH for diagram)first.

If that doesn't turn up a problem, check base ignition timing using a timing light clamped to either the #1 or #5 plug wire. Remove the SPOUT plug and verify 10 BTDC base timing.

Check grounds and connections to the DIS. Have you checked the codes?

Ok I an 2 years new into the Ford family, (92 GT conv), But I really like my SHO addition. I though that I knew more than I did, because I'm not sure what DIS module, PIP and the CID signals are. Please explain more.
Spark plug wires are tight and I've wiggled and snugged up all of my connections under the hood.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

ok, fear not 92SHO, we'll see what we can do. the DIS module is on your crossover tube on the intake of the engine. if your looking right at the engine, look to the left, youll see a tube that joins the back and front of the intake. on the side of this tube there is a gray rectangle with two wiring harnesses on it. thats your DIS. the screws that hold it on the intake AND the bolts that hold that tube in place (two of em on either end on the opposite side of the DIS) all serve as electrical grounds. now being metal they will corrode and weaken the ground ability. sometimes the bolts need to be taken out and all the metal mating surfaces touched up with a wire brush. there is also a strap on the back of the intake toward the firewall (same side as the DIS module) this is bolted onto the car, this is also a ground.

the PIP sensor is part of the crankshaft position sensor (CPS). i found this out the hard way when my DIS was not properly grounded and i started getting this code along with crappy acceleration.

now i *believe* but for some reason am not totally sure right now that the CID (cylinder identification sensor) is your camshaft position sensor. i could be wrong on this, but im fairly sure but for some reason am having mental blanks.

hope this helps.
