stalls at idle, backfires

i did the search and really didn't come up with what I have. at idle it jumps around very rough in the rpm's. i'd say from 400-1500. when you hold it above 1500 or 2000 it smooths out. below that it also backfires with light throttle input. I just threw new plugs in it. it has newer wires that look to be in good shape, as well as what looks to be a replaced ignition module. car has sat for at least 5 months plus. has a full tank of gas according to the gauge. and i also cleaned the MAF. starts up fine warm or cold. seems to act worse when it gets warm but haven't really gotten it up too temp.

ok, replaced the IAC. it will actually idle now for awhile then it acts up. not as bad as before and the backfiring is pretty much gone. just won't idle now....

Double check the firing order.
Check for vaccum leaks on the intake.

don't suspect firing order as it would ALWAYS idle rough. did a smoke test to check for vacuum leaks and it passed. took my ignition module to the parts store and they ran it on the machine 5 times and it passed....

if i unplug the MAF should it idle or not? because when I do that it seems to run fine but it just won't idle....

new update this morning. no start.... getting no spark since I had the ignition module tested....

ok, so I unplugged the CCRM, pluged it back in, beat the crap outta it with my screwdriver handle. and I'm back to where I was. It will start. then die when the rpms get between 1000-1500

are all your grounds tight? Are the two 12mm bolts for the crossover tube tight? How about the ground strap on the back of the intake?

Sounds like a bad ground. Car will run without MAF connected.

grounds are intact and look ok. car does the same thing with the MAF hooked up as it does with it unhooked.

Okay...you say the car sat for 5 months. Was it ever started during those months? Have you tried changing the fuel filter? Does the gas smell like gas or paint thinner? Have you done anything at all to the car besides what you've already mentioned? Does the check engine light come on? Have you pulled codes?

gas smells good. fuel filter looks newish like the plug wires. it has a new IAC. new plugs. firing order is correct. cleaned MAF, no vacuum leaks. hooked up a new ccrm with no changes. did a idle relearn with no luck. tried to pull codes but it gives me nothing... thats where I am. sometimes it will idle fine cold then backfire and stall before it gets warm, sometimes it will not idle cold and backfire then run fine warm. it's driving me nuts.:swing:

when you say pulling codes gives you nothing, do you mean it gives you the 111 system pass code or it gives you nothing at all?
