Call me crazy, but where exactly are the "round buttons" on this new ETAC? They look rectangular to me, just a LOT bigger than the stock soft-button ETAC. My soft buttons were pretty much busted up like in the picture, but I replaced mine with a "hard" button ETAC unit from another Taurus, unplugged and swapped in perfectly.

So now we've got "soft" button ETAC, "hard" button ETAC, and "round" button ETAC?!

they're more "rounded' than anything.

Easier than saying "not as square as the original buttons" EATC

Well, words have meaning, and those buttons are far from being "round". A better description would've been something like "non-SHO" ETAC unit. That would've been a MUCH more accurate description.

It was an excellent writeup though, that's for sure. It's always nice to see that we have options with replacing OE SHO stuff with parts from other models.

Also - if you do get a round button EATC with incorrectly labeled buttons, you can use the buttons out of other round button EATCs to make it right. I believe the Continental EATCs have the correct button labeling. For mine, the EATC came out of a Grand Marquis, but one of the buttons came out of an Explorer to make it correct.

So what do you do when the only thing that works is the fan speed control

Does anyone have pin outs for the 16 wires?

They're all "apart"

Not sure what the issue is. I must have a vacuum line off, so that's why it didn't switch from defrost (did that with the HB EATC that was in the car before)...maybe the buttons are working, but the VFD is not...If I knew which wire in the ribbon cable powered that I could track it down.

I completed this mod a few weeks ago. Did a test fit in my 91 and it worked great. Took me a little longer to complete than I would have liked. Ended up needing more than one round button unit to make it work. Luckily I have a pretty good supply to choose from at work. I was even able to find a green display to match my other dash lights.
