Soft Button EATC to Round Button EATC

It will work. I just take the "norm a/c" button and switch it with the "vent" button. That way, only one of your buttons is mislabeled. It's not a big deal to me. So, yes it will work.

Thanks. I think I will hunt around and see if I can find one exactly like yours. When it comes to my SHO, I want everything to be as close to perfect as possible.

FWIW, i just put a round button faceplate in my car yesterday. i used a hard-button EATC and simply swapped the face and fan wheel. i did have to put something behind the outside temp button to make it work, but other than that and blown bulbs from a junkyard part, it works splendidly.

Ok just to clarify... you will still have to solder the round button EATC face plate to the old EATC correct? You can't just swap the face plates and wheel..

all i did was swap the face and the wheel, using the guts from the old style EATC. the only two buttons that don't quite reach are the auto and outside temp buttons. that was easily remedied with a piece of folded paper. sure, it may sound kinda ghetto, but it's a helluva lot easier than all that other stuff.

That only works for switching a hard button to a round button. I don't see the point since hard button EATCs are nice units by themselves, why take it apart?

This How-To is for turning dime-a-dozen, usless soft button units into something nice.

yep, I just got a 93 that the buttons are shot and was looking at a new one but with this mod, I am heading for the wreaking yard. Looks a whole lot better.

I did this myself last spring and i just took like 4 eatc's apart to figure out how to make it work.

Just as a reminder, some round button eatc's are too skinny to fit into the sho's slot. so make sure that when you go to the jy for a unit that its the right size.

The one in the write up is one of the smaller units. You can see the difference in the first picture. I cut off the alignment tabs to install it. The bigger units do fit better, but the smaller ones work too.

I just picked up a round button EATC today at the local U-Pull-It for $12.50. Now if only my AC or heater worked.

If so, I remember that place from when I went to UF, back in '99-'04. My friends and I used to go there on a Saturday and just wander around the yard looking at all the old cars, and seeing what we could pull off them and reuse, or just learning about them by playing with the bits under the hood. Found lots of cool older Fords there, including a '92 or '93 police Taurus with rubber carpet and the whole nine yards (I still have the "Certified Calibration" speedo from that one).

I got a lot of fix and mod parts from that place. An idler pulley for my old '95 Taurus GL from a '93 or '94 V6 Tempo. Straight airbox snorkel from a Gen1 Vulcan Taurus. Bucket seats from a Gen1 Sable. Center console from a '95 Taurus SE/LX (I don't remember which).

No SHOs though. Not while I lived there. Lots of good memories there though.

That's the place. I live about a mile from there. it was hot as **** out there yesterday. I saw a 91 SHO out there once. Someone had already pulled the drivetrain out for the MTX. They left the engine minus the intake and valve covers lying on the ground. The interior was trashed otherwise I would have liked to take the console (torn-up getting the shifter out). I did grab the Plus hood. I don't think I'll ever do anything with it as my car already has one. The worst part of that place is the damage people do usable parts getting at what they want.

Yeah, one of my buddies was a total ******* one day and just went around the place trashing stuff. I was pretty ****** when I saw what he was doing. His argument was something like, "What's the big deal? It's a junkyard, I'm just treating it like junk..." I told him that if he needed that piece of "junk" for his car, he'd be pretty ****** if some ******* broke it for fun.

But yeah, anyway, I loved that place.

What year round button do you need too do the upgrade

Please Can someone tell me what year on the Grand Marquis, Continentals, Crown Vic, round button EATC I should look for as I have a 94 sho with the soft button EATC, and I would really like too do the upgrade instead of buying a hard button one.

It's been awhile but I'm pretty sure the units I looked for were the 96-97 Town Car/Grand Marquis/Crown Vic. The faceplates are the correct width and color but you will need to swap two of the buttons around. (vent and norm a/c I think)

Call me crazy, but where exactly are the "round buttons" on this new ETAC? They look rectangular to me, just a LOT bigger than the stock soft-button ETAC. My soft buttons were pretty much busted up like in the picture, but I replaced mine with a "hard" button ETAC unit from another Taurus, unplugged and swapped in perfectly.

So now we've got "soft" button ETAC, "hard" button ETAC, and "round" button ETAC?!

Thanks Mike, will have too search the local boneyard or find one on a parts search, ebay doesnt have any round button ones they however have some hard button ones, but the round button looks much cooler, and sets it apart from the regular hard button


94 ATX SHO Silver with 99k just done the 100k
had a 95 SHO green but the AC unit went south, what a shame I gave it back too the dealer after the engine had been rebuit free of charge
