So what did you do to your SHO today!?

It’s a system from Ford that they market very poorly. The problem is finding a dealer that knows anything about them because the SIM in the cell module needs to be activated. Then you sign up for an account and download the app. http://www.fordremoteaccess.com/en/ You need 2 parts to make it work, the perimeter alarm module that plugs inline with the OBDII connector, and the RMU module that plugs into the alarm module. The part numbers are

DL3Z-19A361-A (VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM- FORD PERIMETER PLUS MODULE)

DL3Z-19A390-B (REMOTE MESSAGING UNIT).

They are getting harder to find since Ford has a new system coming out that includes vehicle tracking and ability to monitor fuel levels, etc remotely, but the service is much more expensive. My system costs $49 Canadian a year for the service, which is about 38 bucks now. The new system is $16.99 a month + $150 activation and you can hardly find them anywhere. You can still find the old system on eBay. Don’t worry about if it says it’s for another car. It’s the part numbers that matter.

Installation takes 20 minutes. Just pop the knee panel under the steering wheel off after removing 2 screws, unscrew the OBD port, plug in the T harness, screw the new OBD port back, and mount the alarm and rmu module. I used cable ties to mount the alarm and Velcro to mount the RMU.

If you want this, hurry. The parts are drying up and I don’t think they’re gonna make this system anymore.

I did a little more digging is this what he meant or should i say does this need to be done before activating the sim card:
55. Push Button Start Vehicles:
NOTE:
These steps must be performed with the VSS module security jumper removed if previously
installed. For additional information refer to "VSS Module - Optional Vehicle Security Features".
1 Enter the vehicle with the vehicle key(s) and key fobs you wish to program.
2 Depress and hold brake pedal.
3 Press the start/stop button.
4 After the vehicle starts press the start/stop button to shut down.
5 Repeat steps 3 and 4 an additional four times, ending in ignition on, engine off.
6 Release the brake pedal.
7 Press the vehicle start/stop button twice to turn ignition on.
? The horn will honk 3 times to indicate transmitter learn mode access.
8 Press the start stop button on each fob you wish to program.
9 Cycle ignition to the OFF position to exit transmitter learn mode.
10 NOTE:
If the security jumper is installed the vehicle security features are disabled.
If previously removed, reinstall the VSS module security jumper. For additional information,
refer to "VSS Module - Optional Vehicle Security Features".

All you have to do is take the knee panel under the steering column off. The security module just needs to be solidly mounted to something so the shock sensor works. I just cable tied it to the horizontal dash bracket at the bottom. I velcroed the RMU as high as I could get it on one of the dash support tubes on the far left. Make sure when you install the T harness you cable tie it clear of the moving steering column and the steering shaft. Finally, do not install the included jumper. That disables the alarm functions. The dealer I bought mine from was adamant I install that jumper, too. I figured it out by trial and error when the alarm functions wouldn’t work. I think there are maybe 3 people at dealers in the country that know anything about these. Lol

That learn procedure if for the bi-directional remote start key fob which this system also supports. You don’t need to do that for the cell phone app. You can add on the key fob if you wanted to.

The white wires are for an optional alarm status LED. You can just tape or heat shrink them. You need to have the system installed and the car in a place with decent cell signal. It’s just like activating a cell phone. I had mine in the garage the first time they tried to activate it and it didn’t work. You also can’t be driving while they’re activating. Parked and locked is fine, though. They will do a test and honk the horn and then start it after activation is successful.

Getting my windshield replaced today? Anyone ever seen a windshield separate like this? I didn't even see whatever hit my windshield. It hit right near my driver side "A" pillar, and then split right across my line of sight. It have been fun the past couple of days.

Well, today I got the remote access installed and working. Got my PIN...turned out the system...if I understand correctly....doesn't have the install option available for 2018 and they used 2017.

I used the part #s mentioned above, but didn't use anything from the "antenna" kit except the SIM/antenna piece. The T cable and electronics box from the base security rounded out the rest of the equipment. It all literally plunged in.

I pulled the knee panel off and found a good, flat, high, spot to mount the SIM/antenna. I zip-tied the security box to a metal bracket.

I set the sensitivity at about the mid-point. The instructions I found on-line mentioned locking the car with the windows down and hitting the steering wheel with an open fist to test.

Takes about 20 seconds for the alarm to arm after hitting the lock button your fob, but the alarm remains set if I open the trunk, I suppose because the key fob is in range. I also opened the locked driver's door from inside when the window was down. A warning appeared on the left side of the cluster that said (don't remember exactly) something like, "security system" and had a count-down until the alarm started sounding.

All in all...looks like a nice piece of kit.

(I did it this afternoon, and it was anti-climatic as I am dealing with my two cat sisters who aren't getting along. Well, they're both find with me, but one is growling at the other. Woke me up around 2AM. A cat must;'ve come to the back of our house...and that causes mine to get mean to each other. Usually, blows over quickly....taking longer this time..≥\.)

I have my sensitivity set a little higher. If I lock the car and let my wiper arm hit the glass, the alarm goes off. Also sensitive enough to detect someone opening their door into my car leaving a dent. And lastly my motorcycles exhaust note will sound the horn... takes a good jolt to get beyond the one horn honk.

Thanks for that, John. I wasn't sure exactly where to set it...so I picked a middle spot. I did mount that box in a way that I should be able to just pop off that knee panel to access.

They don’t officially support this system on 2018s. That’s why it didn’t have an option to activate in the system. They’re really pushing the new, more expensive option.

Did you notice the alert recipients tab in the app settings? The first time I installed remote access on the wife’s Flex, I missed that setting and assumed the alerts function was through the app. I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t getting alarm notifications when I triggered it. If you put your phone number in that field, it will text you when the alarm goes off and tell you which zone was triggered. That’s why I set the shock sensitivity about 1/4 up. At half, the wife’s kept getting triggered by Harleys or something, with her running to the parking lot at work to check on her car. Lol

Finally got the damn car leveled....cut damn near 13 inches off the PP springs. This pic was taken right after the it came off the lift. The front still needs to settle. I will post a whole write up later.

I'm going to see how it works and adjust sensitivity as we go. So far, I think it's a great thing...glad I got it installed.

What did I do "with" my SHO this weekend? Well, we took it to the Chrysler Show at Carlisle. I don't bother taking a car to the show anymore...but we like to go and visit. Worthless side story, I catch up each year with the couple that bought my '69 Road Runner convertible back in 1997. Spend two days there and drove back. Now the needs a bath.

I filled the tank prior to getting on the TP to come home and was surprised that it was showing around (don't recall exactly) 27MPG. Nothing wrong with that!
