Thanks again tech! I got the parts on eBay...total was about $285. I work with a dealer and they said for some reason these sellers were way under cost....so I'm pleased. Now...the wait for them to arrive...

You’ll love it once you get it activated. You’ve got the hardest part licked if you have a dealer that actually knows it exists. Lol. I put it in my wife’s Flex over a year ago, and it’s so nice to be able to start the car from inside a store on a 90 degree day and come back to a 70 degree car with the seat AC on. If you have it on more than one Ford, you just touch the car name to toggle between them too.

An update on the remote access kits. One, DL3Z-19A390-B arrived today. Inside, a SIM card "holder", a harness and a electronic box with what appears to be a sensitivity adjustment. Now...to wait for the DL3Z-19A361-A module to arrive...

I've contacted the vendor as underneath the part #DL3Z-19A190-B, there's another sticker with DL3Z-19G364-A. This second number lists as a "remote start" kit. Makes me assume that I don't use the remote start box...just the antenna and maybe harness as it looks like the DL3Z-19A361-A has the OBD2 cable as well as the enhanced security box.

No. You have to use both boxes. The antenna/RMU module plugs into the other module. The OBD2 T harness plugs into the security module too. Once you get all the parts, it will be pretty clear even though the directions suck. You must have the security module. It is what communicates with the car. The RMU is the same for all Fords. The security module is model specific.

Ok. I understand now. You got 2 boxes with your RMU. My guess is that module is for another car. You need to use the DL3Z-19A361-A and T harness that came with that one and plug the DL3Z-19A390-B into it. The other module is superfluous as the part number is for another car. Even if it will plug in, it won’t function if you use the wrong module. Trust me. I learned the hard way. A friend of mine is a dealer tech and an expert on these things. He’s the one that helped me initially because most dealers just give you a confused look when you ask about remote access. Lol

Thanks tech! It's great that you have a contact on the "inside". I work with a Ford dealer and am waiting for the service manager to find out about activation. I have found some info on line that explains that process.

It looks like the "B" may be a superceded # and that's why it came with the second box...in addition to the SIM card piece.

The other piece is enroute with the OBD cable piece and security unit. It does look obvious how it all will plug together. That's the piece I'll use with the SIM piece from the other.

I am thankful for the help with this...I hope I can be as helpful at some point.

All the service manager has to do is I.D. Your car in P.T.S. click/hover over the "workshop" manual tab and click on Acessory Instalation. It may be necessary to click on Dealer Installed Acessory, doubtful. In the Acessory Instaltion section under electrical there is a hyperlink for the scalable system. Within the instructions is R.M.U. module installation and activation instructions.

There is a separate link for activation of the SIM card. You have to great an account on the site before you do this.

If you haven't done it before it takes a little bit of a learning curve.

I contacted Tasca, where I got the DL3Z-19A190-B, (box is also labelled DL3Z-19G364-A) and while they have yet to answer the question about this part number and if it's superceded....they tell me I need a JL1Z-19a361-A. I assume this is the new part that tech mentioned....

Of course, the vendor is only replying with short emails...and no details.arg

Matt when you get this up and running is there a way you can give me instructions on the process i really want to do this. I called my dealership he had no idea what i was talking about for the activation, he never heard of it hmm. All the info you could give me would be much appreciated. I read on another forum a guy did activation over the phone without the car the tech i spoke to was telling me no way you need the car he has no clue what i was talking about . Thanks..

Fun fact unrelated, there was already publications on how to add smartlink to our cars. IDS is needed. It's not plug n go.

It appears there is a seperate harness that one can use so the dongle doesn't have to be connected to the DLC. The smart link appears to be programmed to the car. I don't know if it is transferable once programmed. The instruction did mentions introduction of the module to the car and the Remote Functions Actustor needing a software update.

I have put remote access in 2 cars, and both were activated remotely. There’s nothing on the car that has to be programmed. They just need your vin and sim id to activate the cellular modem in the RMU. You need to sign up for an account on the remote access site, download the app, and login. Then they’ll send you a 4 digit PIN. You put that and the sim id in the app, and if it activated properly, it should work for 3 days. You need to purchase a subscription sometime within the 3 days. You’ll find the subscription link on the remote access website.

Smartlink is so expensive monthly. I looked into it, but I’d rather have the old system. You have to sign a 2 year contract, and it’s 17 bucks a month. Remote accesss is $50 Canadian, about $38 USD, a year.

I finally called Tasca and got someone helpful. They said that the part I got is/was superceded, which explains the part # and likely why it has the extra box....as its listed on the box as a "aerial assembly".

The other part is due on Thursday...so I likely won't get a chance to hook it up until Sunday. I also am copying and pasting the info above for the service guys at the dealership.

Part numbers should be the same from 13-18. The version of Sync has nothing to do with the remote start functionality.
