Today I was driving along in my 93 ATX and the transmission make a glass like sound and eventually just went out. Couldn't move. All my fluid all over Victory street (ironic I see).

Since I'm fairly new to this, I was curious if I should rebuild it (I am a mechanic), replace it with another ATX transmission that has previously been rebuilt (94-95 internals), or use a junker 94-95 (since I heard it's the better years).

So what would you do if you were me? All opinions are readily heard. If I switched transmissions entirely, what else would I need for it to work properly (94-95 in a 93).

Give me all your thoughts!

Thank you,
Jager

PS My search feature using style must suck because I couldn't find anything. Sorry.

Not that price was the biggest issue as infired by my early post:

But anyhow, I finally found the right search combination and found that:

94-95 transmissions are a straight swap, even the planetary gearset is the same (however mine is toast) the major difference in the 25 splines on the shaft compared to 23 on the 92-93 transmissions.

The MTX swap would be nice, but due to my budget and time, it's fine as an ATX. That and I don't see myself finding an entire MTX parts car, plus I like having an ATX (my RX-7 draws more of my funds.)

I was wondering that if I rebuilt my 93 unit with the 25 spline shaft, midwest sho transmission extreme duty cooler, TED LCM and a D4u1. After that should I be in good shape? I'm a mechanic and I'll be rebuilding it.

I found out 100% what my problem was. My case cracked and a chunk of it fell off. I found myself staring at my final drive. So I have no core.

What is now my best bet?

Well, I have a rebuilt 93 with the upgrades but you're too far away. I also have a complete 94-95 parts ATX , but you're still too far away, shipping would be prohibitive.

How much and my zip is 56001. It's a business address?

PM me or reply here, I found ONE transmission for around $700 with shipping to get it here.

I appreciate the help!
