Just wondering if anyone knows the cause of slow starts on SHO's. Hunter was telling me it's a check valve issue. Anyone else know. If I prime the pump it starts right up. That's the only way usually. Car has a new starter, battery cables and a new fuel pump. It's done this since I've owned it. Not a big deal. Just curious.

Check valve? When did I say that? What is that even?

When is the last time you changed your fuel filter? Could be a little pluggy in there, hence why it starts up once you prime the pump & build up pressure.

I always thought a slow start condition was usually related to a cam position sensor. With a bad cam sensor basically the car has a 33% chance of guessing the right setting when you crank. Or maybe I've been smoking the wacky tabacky too much; can't remember the cam sensor issues too well.

It could also be a bad fuel pressure regulator bleeding off pressure, or a leaking injector bleeding pressure off while the car is not running.

Bah! When we did the 60k. It's always done it since I've owned it. You told me your silver SHO did it too. :nut:

Mine does the same thing. I've narrowed it down to fuel delivery. Once I graduate and have a steady income I plan on replacing the pump and having a set of injectors re-worked.

chris, i remember reading something about the cam sensor on shotimes as well..my car is also a slow starter..even with a new fuel filter. Will a faulty sensor store a code?

It can, but not always.

Yeah I remember my silver MTX would have the hard start like that sometimes. Come to think of it, I replaced the cam sensor on that car and it didn't help so scratch what I said.

The guys who said fuel delivery are probably on the ball :thumb:
