Hey guys,
Going from a 91 ATX to an 89 MTX is a little harder than I thought.
Assuming I can get the ECM wiring right, can anyone tell me what I need to make her run? I'm planning on setting it up race car style, toggle switch ignition, fuel pump, and fan with a pushbutton start, then just set up a trick ass switch somewhere for when I would normally take the key out.
I'm basically looking for what I NEED to make it run. I've got a few plugs on the drivers side of the subframe with no where to plug them in, and the harness out of the donor car has already been torn through by someone far enough that I can't salvage it.
I don't need gauges, although eventually an odometer would be good so I don't have to have a GPS running all the time to calculate distance vs milage to know when the tank is low. I'll go through it again eventually and make the cool stuff work, but for now I really need to just be able to drive the car.
I'm guessing there are a few gurus on here that can tell me what I need. It seems like it shouldn't be too bad since most of the wiring I was able to keep on the subframe. I can post some pics tomorrow of the plugs I have no where to plug in. Its just 2 or 3 six pin weather pack type plugs. I've looked at my haynes manual and it looks like all the ECM wiring should be the same, and the plugs are the same on the firewall so that should all pass through correctly.

Thanks guys!

Before we can help you out , what is exacly your swap?

First off theres no ATX in 91 , they began in 93.

Second I need to know these things.

1- whats the car shell year that receives the motor.
2- what year is the motor that goes in the good car (and is it a 3.0 or 3.2)
3- what harness/pcm are you using on the good car.

With that we should be able to point you in the right direction.

You will need both Helms book to do this (Diagrams)

If you use the 89 motor/harness/ecu , look for the C100 C101 connector , its the connector that connects the engine to the rest of the car. (ignition , lights , AC , Clutch switch and so forth.

If your lucky the continantal should have a connector that does the same thing and match the wires.

This is gonna be a really long process.

can you just send me a pic of that connector? So I know which set of wires I'm looking at.

Honestly- you're going to be needing way more than a few pics to do this swap...

yeah I realize I'm coming off that way. I do have most of it there, just having trouble identifying which set of wires goes from the main harness to the fuse panel.

You're going to need the EVTMs for both the donor and recipient vehicles. It will include information on the harness circuit and wire-color for each wire that passes through each connector.

While both vehicles use many of the same connectors, the pin-placement and color-coding for the wires are different - even if the harness circuit is for the very same component. That's even true between same-year MTX and ATX SHOs for some harness circuits. It's extremely unlikely that you can mix harnesses without completely rewiring the connectors.

I can guarantee you won't be lucky.

You can disassemble every connector and move/change the harness circuits as needed. However, this is a time consuming, tedious, literal pain-in-the-ass process. And then you better keep meticulous notes, as the only reference material for trouble-shooting will be the notes you take . . . .

Oh. And then there's the differences in the use of harness splices . . . .
