Thanks for offering help :sun:

Im ok right now, this build is taking super loooooooonnnnggggggg cause of money issues.

I will be asking for help from both SHOCAL And SCPOC soon when car is done.

I'm very good with 1st gen probes and the vulcan engine ( i had one of the most modified ones on a probe). right now, according to my notes and all my  engine should fire up once i bolt it back into the car since all the wiring, fuel, relays and everything needed is ready to go.

BTW this polished intake is looking sexier now that is more polished :angelnot:

also new underdrive pulley from SHOSOURCE (thanks for super fast shipping), stock pulley has the rubber part all cracked on some areas and beginning to separate.

:nut:

this polishing is driving me nuts :nut:

it seems that no matter how much i sand up to 1000 grit by hand or polish with buffer afterwards, there is always a few pits that pop out last minute from the casting, can't really see them unless u r super close to it but its driving me crazy.

is this normal?? or what can i use to avoid this mini, mini, mini imperfections?

thanks for any help.

You probably should start with a coarser paper, maybe a 400 or 600 grit. The scratches left with those are then reduced with the 1000, 1600 3200. With polishing rouge, you can usually skip the 1600 and 3200.

If you really want some fine grit paper, I use 5000 for my coarse, 25,000 for my medium polish and 75,000 grit for my final lapping.

Polishing is a biotch though, aint it?

LOL my God this is a huge pain in the butt.

I'm using 80 grit, then 120, then 200, then 400, then 600, then 1000, then 2000.

from there i got at it with the sisal wheel with black compound, then with a spiral wheel with brown compound..

i have not done the white and green compound yet.

The intake parts look super shiny in the sun and almost like a mirror now.

I dont think i will be going with super fine paper like the ones you use. I hate doing this and its a huge project.... but it looks soooo pretty :nut:

That's what sucks people in. The end product is sooooo nice. Getting there is a journey, though.

As an FYI, the guys that do my polishing for me, use just 10" cotton wheels and flap wheels. They took a flat spot on an intake piece (rear plenum) from raw to highly polished in about 30 seconds. The difference is the rpm of their wheels 3400 rpms, and the amount of force they can put against that wheel. The motors that drive six wheels (3 work stations) are big 10 HP, 3 phase motors.

My home polishing motor is 1/2 hp with 6" cotton and it takes forever.

little update... went with this color combination to match rest of engine. red tanks with polished runners

pic is from cell phone

IMAG0533 zps86c619b2

i was going to polish the tanks but they will get scratched easily due to them touching/rubbing hood.

this polishing stuff is a mess, lots of dirt/wax/ pieces of buffing wheels all over, not fun... it took me 4 days to finish the runners.

and some more

here the intake can be seen on engine with the IAC valve without the spacer, heater thingy, I did not want to have a mess of little hoses that will only heat up the intake.

this is one of my favorite pics, i will retake them with the DSLR i have, but the effect is there this intake looks pretty even at dusk.

IMAG0535 zps1346a4a1

and here is the thing I felt needed to be done, im running the stock probe and sho oil pressure sensors, which will work as intented from factory, stock probe one will send signal to stock oil pressure gauge, and the SHO sensor will light up a oil light on the dash so it looks factory.

IMAG0537 zpsb48bf2fe

i will paint the letters on intake with silver color so it looks better, also will take some better pics, The shosource intake hose couplers made the adjustment of the intake very easy.

will post more pics as i put engine in car this week, as well as related stuff such as the spider web of wire harnesses i have LOL.

Either way, needs to paint IAC. Not hating.. Just saying:)

yeah, i agree too. but im kinda thinking this IAC might not last long since it makes a buzz, buzz when activated, louder than on the other ford cars in the house. but i will add some bling to a new IAC for sure.

Purty! :omgsho:

This is inspirational. Reminds me why I've been willing to struggle thru so much to get mine running. Curious - what kind of paint did you use?

Keep at it.
