So, after an extensive search. I have narrowed it down to three very different SHO's.

#1 is 2010, high miles over 130k. However, it has two new factory turbos, new brakes and rotors, new front and rear struts. Highway miles. Maintenance records and receipts from all work done. All stock. No accidents and paint is fine. Tranny and diff flushed with clean bill of health. Rims are worn but price is less than $9,500

#2 2011, one owner, all options, local trade at dealer purchased at. All records. 78k miles and all stock. Cosmetically and mechanically great. About $12,500

#3 2011 low miles 60k. Two owner, and a heavily modded. All work done by owner minus exhaust. All records and receipts. A few dings, peeling tailight chrome and drivers seat tear on side. Fast as **** and drives great. No work for me to but a few personal exterior cosmetic items. $13k

I am a big boy and can decide for myself but I would like some input from SHO experts. Seeing that I am a SHO FNG

Thx!!!

Which ones have the PP package? That would be something to heavily consider... extra cooling for the trans... ability to disable advance track...

And for what’s it worth... the 2011 with low miles has probably been ragged out, do you know who the tuner is? Depending on the tuner it maybe a ticking time bomb... if it’s Livernois Motorsports, AJPTurbo, or Unleashed you are most likely in the clear on that.. just know it’s not been drivin like a grandma..

The tuner is livernois and has an auxiliary trans cooler added. This one has been really well cared for but the lack of mileage to me means it could have some major stuff due soon. The first one is the PP. I have driven #2 and 3. Hoping to drive #1 next week. Thx!!

The aux coolers, were NOT an available option for the PP Equipped cars in 2010-2012.

They could be added on after the fact, but were never an official option. Just FYI.

Yep, I know that the owner added it on when doing the mods.

I would go for number 2. I would not want a car that was modded nor would I want one with 130k miles. Of course, I wouldn't buy it without a thorough inspection on a lift so I could check for PTU and turbo leaks among other things.

Man you really know how to ruin a beautiful day, so now I have to add aux transmission cooler to my ever growing list of things I "want/need" to do to my car. Where does that even go, F$%K What next,
I would not want a car that was modded
I understand an in theory I would agree with you BUT I would rather have a well taken care of modded car over an ignored stock SHO any day. I see a few around that you can just tell people do not take care of them. One old fellow has a blue one with a bumper sticker, I have never seen clean. My car had no mods but was a lease an not taken care of, it took me awhile to get it right now it has a few mods and I admit I'm not easy but it is well cared for an much nicer then when I purchased it. Ether way it really is a crap shoot.

Thx SHOimVa!!!

I agree with you. It seems like a ton of the one owners are lease or people who don't know what they owned. An 80 yr old who wanted the top of the line Taurus. In dealing with with the owner of the modded one he takes great care in the car and has all the records. The one with 78k at the dealer. It's at a dealer they're going to tell me what I want to here and I find out later it was a lease/fleet. Hard to tell where that came from. I may have found a unicorn in the SHO lineup and I am waiting to hear back. I will let you all guess.

The reason that I would not want a car that had been modded is because I prefer to do the mods myself. Besides, I would have to wonder about an owner who had dings on the car and a driver's seat tear after only 60k. I would be concerned that he didn't take much pride in his car.

Ha! My 1st reaction? Was NEVER & is NEVER, and has NEVER been, my intention.

2nd reaction, since I know you're just bust'n chops...... is that I have ALWAYS sought to put out accurate clear info.

That said, the Aux Tranny Cooler is not that difficult to retrofit. I was the 1st (that I am aware of) to have done so.

Likewise, I authored a very descriptive "How-To" tutorial wayyyyyyyyy back in the day on its' install. So check the "How-To" section(s). I know PB is still holding my pics hostage, but I can dig around & send them to you personally via email or what have you, if/when the time comes to tackle the project yourself.

Someone authored a follow-up or addendum to mine, albeit in a separate thread, for those 10-12 owners who DID have PP, & needed to relocate the ACC Radar. So it's all good.

@Hawk......

Continued successess in your research.

Quite the conundrum to be in discerning between a one lower mileage one, where said owner likely has no clue about the platform

Versus a higher mileage modded one, where it is more likely they took better care of ot overall.

Good luck!

Ultimately condition will trump everything. I've seen low mileage cars run to within an inch of their life and higher mileage ones that were babied. I've also know guys who own modded cars but never trash them and guys that own completely stock cars that just beat the bleep out of them. Honestly only an in person inspection and review of the records will tell you for sure.

All that said, #2 was my choice here with all options presented.

Ok, I am down to two choices. The high mileage one is out. Just too many issues to worry about.

Question for all. The non-modified 2011 SHO. Just had $4,100 worth of repairs by dealer selling it. Including the timing chain which was the biggest cost of that work done. New brakes, rotors, and tires. All fluids flushed. Would that much being done scare you away? The dealer showed me the invoice and would not sell before repairs were done. Should I run away because more issues lurking. I'll know more tomorrow. It looks and drives great. The color of blue is leading to think how cool it is but I am nervous that repair amount.

What questions should I ask or look out for?

Thx for my long ass rant!!! Btw, the modded one drove awesome and the guy really took care it. Being first model year makes me worry and what repairs are on horizon. Hey, at least I am not buying blind on eBay. Not sure how you can do that without looking or driving on used cars older than 1 or 2 yrs.

Mine is a "1st model year" and other than (at that time) the craptastic brakes, I haven't had many issues at all.

The fact they repaired the timing chain isn't unusual. Especially on this platform. So that wouldn't cause me concern. Everything else seems like typical run of the mill replacement of wear items. Seems like the dealer's actually doing their due diligence.

Still a tough call.

Especially with you enjoying the modded one as well.

Thx. The 2010 is white and I would love to not copy your look but "borrow" some of your exterior visual enhancements. Not to be as fast as yours but faster than stock. We did 0-60 in the test drive and it did 4.4 on the tuner. Not a FNG to going fast. I am use to rwd and high displacement horsepower. I miss the snap of my neck that 392 Hemi mated to an 8 speed trans. Hey, my kids need to go to college more than I need a new toy. The older SHO allows be to be responsible and have a sleeper awd car. I'll have one of the two by early next week.

Timing chain repair - could be timing system related or water pump related. I always tell my "peeps" in for a penny in for a pound on these engines. If you replace the timing chains/tensioners etc., might as well replace the water/coolant pump too. Same labor to do all of it.

That's what I am wondering if they did all of it. Because tires, breaks, and rotors don't add up to $4,200. I'll find out tomorrow. Thx!!

If I understood your first post, the modded car has exterior dings and a ripped seat. It doesn't sound to me like the owner took especially good care of it. You would never find dings or rips on any car I own, regardless of mileage or age. Typically, I expect modded cars to be owned by people who appreciate them and take good care of them both mechanically and cosmetically....but that is not always the case. Also, while Livernois tunes and performance mods are generally safe, a modded car that has been driven hard would concern me more than a stock one in terms of mechanical wear and tear. If a car is going to be driven hard or raced, I want to be the one doing it!

The repairs on the 2011 sound like a good thing. That would make me more comfortable with it, along with the fact that it has never been modified and very likely never raced. It would be a great basis from which to do your own mods. Just a tune would bring the 0-60 down to the low 4 second range.
