I have a 95 SHO, which has repeatedly cut off while driving. The crankshaft censor was replaced once, but not to long after the problem continued. Most recently the ignition modular was replaced, which didnt solve the problem either. I also read a post on this board where someone was having the same problem and replaced the crank shaft censor. I guess i am asking if anyone knows if it is likely for the crank shaft censor to go bad multiple times, and could their be any other possible causes for the car to cut off while driving. Sorry if I made this to long. I would greatly appreciate anyones help.

Thanks

I had a similar problem in the past with my car. I replaced the CPS, but that wasn't the problem. The problem turned out to be the fuel pump relay. After that was replaced, the car was perfect.

Was the waterpump changed at the same time as the sensor? It goes bad because of a leaking pump 99% of the time.

I agree with Jeremy on the CPS/water pump; if engine stops suddenly that's the most common problem. The other likely cause is the fuel pump; if engine sputters/bucks it's probably a bad fuel pump.

William,

I have a 95 MTX that does the same thing once in a while. I am hoping it is the CPS or whatever you call it below the water pump. When I do my 60,000 maintenance soon I plan to replace all the sensors I can. I have a new fuel pump and that was not the problem, but I guess it could be the relay(s) for the pump. I hope changing the various sensors will fix it. Where in VA do you live? I am only a couple hours from VA.

When you turn the key to the run position, but not on, does the fuel pump sound different? It makes that whirring sound as it primes. You might also have a dying fuel pump. Something else to consider. I believe that you can check pressure at the fuel rail. I usually just replace the pump though. (However, I know that my CPS isn't bad)
