Does anyone know the diameter of the shims? I need to get some from my friendly motorcycle shop, but need to know the size.

I believe they are 29mm shims.

However, if I remember correctly, Yamaha bikes use full-mm shim increments only (2300, 2400, 2500, etc.), not 1/4mm increments (2325, 2350, etc.). I think this was discussed here earlier this month.

SRFDUDE: They are 29.5mm shims for yamaha and some kawaski. I will get you the part numbers and e-mail them to Curtis so you can order them. They do go in half sizes.

Thanks, that's good stuff to know. I also wonder what the typical moto-shop price is, as I'm able to get them pretty cheap from my local dealer.
Fred: They cost me 11.90 for a 5-pack. I believe retail is just under 4 bucks.
These are not the Yamaha dealer prices..these are from Parts Unlimited but they are manufactured by the same company. (K&L)

Thanks, guys. Shoman94, are you sure about the 29.5mm dimension? Searching the archives pulled up some interesting info; Scott Pat says they are 29 mm? Anyway, ShoNuts site says they have used kits, but I'd rather get new ones. The local Yamaha shop doesn't really know anything about them. I called my discount Ford dealer and they don't have any in stock; most of them are in Detroit or Memphis. These things are getting scarce, it seems.

The shims in the SHO engine are 29mm shims. I just re-measured the Ford-supplied shims in my collection and they are exactly 29mm in diameter. I purchased 5 each of the 2.700mm and 2.750mm shims in the 29mm diameter through a Yamaha dealer and they match the diameter of the Ford shims. The shims come in sizes relevent to us of 2.700mm, 2.750mm and 2.800mm. The part number of the 2.700mm shim is (K&L) 13-7649, the 2.750mm shim is 13-7650 and the 2.800mm shim is 13-7651. I believe they ordered these through Parts Unlimited out of California.

Sorry, I was just going by memory and I thought it was 29.5...but 29mm it is....ANYWAYS, I just got in shims for Naval-avi8or, I'm shipping them to him tomorrow. He asked me to get the part numbers for you but if you want I can get them for you. Depending on which wharehouse they are in I can get them in 1-5 buisness days.
Do you want me to send the part numbers?

Okay, Jason. Since I expect to change virtually all of the shims, and have no idea what to get, I am going to pull the intake/valve covers, measure all, and have a good idea what will be needed. At that point I can contact you and order the ones I need plus extras, rather than shooting in the dark. Expect a post next week, thanks a lot.
