shifting funny

i got a 94 atx and the guy who sold it to me said the tranny was rebuilt but they didnt do a good job on it so it shifts wierd. When picking up from a stop it just revs pretty high and it feels like its on the 3rd gear. All at once it pops back to first with a pretty big ****. And when driving with a constant rev,the gear does not shift up unless i let the gas off and then it shifts, and the same occurs for the next gear.

Sometimes while driving a steady speed, the gear just shifts up and all at once it shifts back down.

I used Lucas Stop Slip and it helped the problem while starting off.

Any help would be appreciated

I think he lied out his ass, what he meant was it wasn't rebuilt and hes trying to dump the car before the tranny blows completely. Sounds like a slipping tranny and maybe one of the shift solenoids is bad, but I don't know much about trannys I'm just guessing here.

Actually on second though, could this be a VSS problem? I completely forgot about that until just now. I bet that is the problem, the tranny doesn't know how fast the car is going so is kind of guessing the gears to go into. Id start there, replace the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) they're cheap.

Yet another edit, did you pull codes? it is possible you might have some tranny codes.

yah id tend to agree with 1993, def check the vss, sounds like just another shady used car salesman
