Shifter geting jammed?

I have a 90 SHO and recently my shifter has been getting stuck in third gear and some times fifth. I know i need to replace my clutch but could this be something bigger like the trans, or something as small as the cable on the shifter binding up? Thanx for any help.

Does it shift fine with the engine off?

If so, then your problem is most likely the clutch.
