My shifter cable busted. I repaired it but now that it shifts into gear fine, it responds like a shot tranny and can't even get it to shift out of 1st. By the way the connection I used for temporary fix from cable to tranny shifter is made of plastic.

Can you find a local industrial or specialty rigging place that can replace the entire cable? I haven't looked at a cable shifter in 12ish + years so I can't even picture the setup in my head anymore.

There are 2 cable ends made of plastic that break, one at the shifter, and one at the trans, and the repair kit above fixes them. I have a short throw cable shifter and it has zero backlash, love the feel. 20 lbs lighter than a rod shifter, plus the exhaust pipe is straight and not bent. and they don't transmit any vibrations like rod shifters.

Thanks I'm definitely need it, I think the problem I'm having is trans range sensor related or speed sensor. I just replaced speed sensor a few months ago so I think it range sensor just wish I knew how to test it before ordering one.

I think I (and maybe others) were confused with you having a cable designed manual tranny shifter that came with some of the early cars. always best to list the car year and trans config when posting as there are some differences between the manual and auto cars

if you replace the cable, be aware that the cable is attached to the floor board by a clamp that is under the heater floor duct, so you have to remove that to get to the clamp.

thx, ihavent changed it yet. i got a gadget I made on there thats working for now. ive been working on other emergency issues, i dont really want to metion them cuz well wer not really supposed to cross-thread LOL but if you happen to know where i can find a serpentine tensioner other then shosource please let me know. i really should get it from them, they deserve all the credit. too bad my budget is a bit under cut right & just cant do. thx for reminding about the clamp down there. i did the painstaking task of replacing the heater core last year and do recall. anyway im about to adress this issue soon. i took off neutral safety switch to clean it out & realign it. i threw it out of alignment trying to adjust the "gadget" i have on there now. runs good but my O/D button dosent work and seams like its stuck on overdrive off mode. the last time i had a similar problem like that i jumped through many loop holes till finaly i replaced the PCM & wallah. so thats what i got going on next, that & trying to diagnose an engine light problem. so if you got any input at all, i appreciate much. of course appreciation that only one sho owner to another can understand. . . thx again & i sorry about the confusion i rarely make that mistake, i learned my lesson after having to return many parts in the past. Well hope to hear from you soon friend. TTYL.

every time you start the engine, the pcm defaults to "overdrive allowed" mode and you have to turn it off via the button if you want it off. So, if yours does not go into overdrive that suggests you have a transmission issue.
