Okay i was thinking about something earler today i was looking at my "mommy's" sho today which happens to be a torredo red Gen3. i was thinking if i got the tunner sct2 and had a racing only program that set each gear shift point to 7000 rpm would that be a little faster? now do say im stupid and stuff its only a thought! i talked it over with NKplus and he told me that the main reason that gen3's are slow is that it takes alot more power to shift the car because it is a automatic? but he didnt mean it in a way to make fun he said it in a helpful/resourcefull way! so gen3 gurus would it make a diffrence or it wouldnt do crap!

and i know the sho motor doesnt have any power left after 7000Rpm thats why i wrote 7000 rather then 7100rpm!!!

You can shift the car manually at 7000rpms and see for yourself if its faster. Don't do it too often though or you'll be making good friends with your local tranny shop.

There is usually more parasitic loss with an automatic transmission than in a manual transmission. Manual transmissions are usually more efficient and don't lose as much horsepower to the wheels as automatics do.

There's lots of debate about this. I found that my times were slightly better and my traps were definitely better when I manually shifted 2-3. 1-2 shifts high enough with the stock programming but the 2-3 shift is a bit low. I would launch in drive and shift back to 2nd after the 1-2 shift. Then I'd hold 2nd till about 6700 and put it in drive. You have to shift early as there is a delay and hitting the rev limiter will slow you down.

Now with my SCT X-Calibrator I don't have to do this and I've got super firm shifts.

As long as the next gear lands in the 4800 rpm range you will gain nothing from holding the gear in to get higher rpms.

First, the Gen III SHo isn't "Slow". IT is a 15 second car (usually high 15's) in a good drivers hands, and some have dipped into the 14's without major mods.

Second, there is a rev limiter and it won't let you hold the car to 7000 rpm, and if you hit it, like Ian said, it slows you WAY down.

Third, with a stock engine, V6 or V8, power falls off so quick once past about 5800 rpm, that there is no advantage to running it up much higher than factory shift points, with the exception that the 2-3 shift does seem a bit early, and holding it just a bit longer might help, if nothing else it makes the driver feel good, but leave the 1-2 shift to the computer.

Fourth, Drag racing is not and never has been the SHO's strong suit. They are superb highway cars, and make very good track cars for road racing and can even be very entertaining for autocross. The Gen III is best at bracket drags, where it can be very consistent.

I keep telling people that ask me about making the SHO into a Mustang beating drag car...they need to buy a Mustang or spend lots of money and prepare to still be pretty much behind the curve. There are some VERY fast SHO's in the group, but FWD will never be the best way to do drag racing.

I forget what thread I sawthis in but there is some chart or something that you can input stuff into to get the best shift points. anyway long story short, at least on the gen2 mtx you will never be able to shift to late. The car pulls harder at 8k rpms in 2nd then it does after you shitfted to 3rd and are at 5500 or w/e it lands at. It was some shift point thread ill see if I can find it.:thumb:

I don't care what program you used, but No SHO ever pulled harder at 8000rpm than 5800.

The power falls off so fast at 6000 rpm that yes, you can make it to 8000 if you get the limiter shut off, but you aren't making much HP and for sure torque is virtually non-existant.

I have the cams and some mods and my car does make peak HP about 7200, but drops after that, and torque is way down.

Re-think believing that program or maybe you didn't plug in the correct numbers?

The only 16-second passes I ever ran were when I let the computer do all the shifting. I got my best ETs and traps (93mph!) when holding 2nd through the end of the 1/4. Now this was with Doug's tuning where the rev limiter was bumper to 7500 RPM. I was finishing the 1/4 at about 7100 RPM in second.
