Seafoam is great stuff. Been using it in our motorcycle, mowers, boat, and cars for a long time.

WTF... im really hoping that had some sarcasm in it...

I don't think he was being sarcastic at all. Water is a cheap and easy way of cleaning out your intake. You can't really put too much in to hydro lock the engine, it just stalls out for the same reasons that Seafoam stalls an engine.

Yes, it doesn't work as well, but it does the trick and I know people who've done it plenty of times with good results.

Yep, as soon as that water hits the CC it flash boils and turns to steam. You have to be VERY careful with this procedure though.

As far as Seafoam is concerned, i've never used it. I stick to Lucas fuel system treatment for the injectors, and intake ports/valves. As for the engine, I just run about a .5qt of quality ATF with the oil for 100miles or so. I stand behind the Lucas FST stuff, as I have seen first hand results that blew everything else out of the water. I don't think you could get a valve any cleaner without removing it, same goes for the intake ports. I'm curious on what they look like now with the modified injectors, i've ran atleast 1qt through the system since the motor got back into the car, should be intresting.

well i ran half a can through my intake today using the ccv port on the bottom of the throttle body, everything went alright, think i did smoke out the neighbors though, haha

went out for the spirited drive afterwards, hit the gas in 1st and it was stumbling like crazy... until the secondaries opened up, then it was back to the sho again, lol, gave me a good toss back in the seat,

Ive tried sea-foam in the intake a couple of times, but it doesnt seem to do any better than good old distilled water.

And I dont even bother with PCV lines or anything. I simply loosen a couple of the intake hose clamps, remove the MAF from the air box, rotate the MAF/intake hose a bit, and dribble the distilled H20 down the intake.

Start with an engine that is us to temp.

Just be sure to prop the T-body open a bit to hold the engine at 1500-2k rpm, and dump enough in to allow the engine to stumble, but not stall.

A good hard run after is a good idea, as is changing the oil.

...

The best use ive found for SeaFoam yet is to help the sticky injectors in my Powerstroke clear up. It gets a can of SeaFoam right into the filter bowl every time I charge the fuel filter (every other oil change). 250k on the factory installed injectors is pushing it! :laugh_ti:

As Per Doug Lewis

There is a decarbon proceedure for Explorer's and Rangers with 4.0L engines. The trick is to make it work for the SHO. Carbon fouling and dropped cylinders are really bad for a few reasons:

In a DIS system, two spark plugs fire at once. One is on the compression stroke and one is on the exhaust stroke. The coil is in the middle and the plugs are each end of the secondary windings. The block completes the circuit. The problem is that when one side of the circuit opens up, it takes out the other side. If you drop two cylinders from the engine, you pump a ton of raw fuel into the cats. We all know what happens when you overheat the converters ... don't we.
Our engines have a quench area at the top and bottom of the combustion chamber. If this area gets a high concentration of carbon build-up, it will hit the piston when it gets to TDC. This sounds like a bottom end knock. Plus, it's not too good on the bearings.
The carbon that accumulates in the combustion chamber takes up combustion chamber volume, reducing chamber volume and raising compression. This could cause the cylinder to pre-ignite or ping.
The procedure is not too complicated, so here goes.

Find the canister purge port on the intake manifold. It's the one near the Idle Air Bypass (IAB) valve, opposite the throttle body. Remove the hose and attach a length of vacuum hose to it. Start and warm the engine. Take a can of Top Engine Cleaner (I use Ford Carb Cleaner and Engine Tune Up -- 16 oz. Blue can). Rev engine and hold about 3000rpm. Use the vacuum hose to suck the cleaner into the engine. It will cough, spit and sputter, while pumping out white smelly smoke from the exhaust. Inject half the can of cleaner into the engine slowly, then suck in the rest of the can quickly and to try to make the engine stall. If it doesn't, then shut it off. Let this cook for about fifteen min. Start the engine and rev until it will idle. Fill the can with water and repeat the steps. Then drive the **** out of it until the smoking stops (about 5 miles of hard acceleration). This should take care of the carbon.

Shotimes FAQ

Although in the future, I most likely won't use water, and give sea foam a shot. I've also sprayed aresol carb cleaner directly into the TB and it gives the same smoke out the exhaust.

Hmm... yeah, I hated the stupid HLAs on my old pgt.

I don't like all this "drive the crap out of it" stuff. Gas is way too expensive for that shit nowadays! I don't think my SHO's seen above 3K in a month...

mines definitely seen less secondaries, but its not expensive enough to NOT open them up at all yet,

im gonna do another half can of seafoam tomaro, and im gonna try to open up the secondaries while feeding the can, to help clean the secondary runners alittle

You don't really need to drive the crap out of the car, but it is best, plus you can get a good butt dyno test and feel the difference it makes...which it certainly does :dribble:

The first kick in the butt from the secondaries opening up is a really good feeling :woohoo:

Back of the can has a Gen III SHO. Go look at it and tell me that isn't a SHO, although the wheels are wrong.

No the bumper cover is clearly a SHO. I looked at it and couldn't believe it either.

I just found out that the Seafoam did more than just clean the **** out of my engine. It freed up what ever gunk that was holding my rear main together. My plug wells are filled with oil as well.

Can't complain though, not like it didn't do its job lol.

It's better to have no gunk and know you have a leak then to have gunk clogging all that stuff up.
