Hi all. I repainted a cowl hood I have with rustoleum enamel. I thinned it and sprayed it. I know rustoleum takes along time to dry. How long should I wait to be safe? Is there anything I can do to make it dry faster? I currently have it sitting in my garge with the heat cranked up to to the 78-80 range, would raising the temp more help? I know when I did my rims it seemed to take forever to dry. Thanks.

I would leave it alone for at least 24 hours, but that's just me. More heat couldn't hurt either.

+1

At least 24. And I would wait another day for good measure, since the weather is quite a bit cooler than last week up here.

Thanks. I was planning on giving it a week to a week and a half. I got the rustoleum idea from an article I read in Hot Rod. They did a whole car. I think they let it set for almost 2 weeks.

Yea, that enamel gets harder after time. When using engine paints and stuff along those lines, its 'dry" in 24, and fully cured in a week. You got the right idea man.

Stick it in the sun. Seriously. Even an overcast sky will allow the surface heat up to a lot more than 80° and the UV will help it cure. And yes...give it a week

Good idea about the sun. Currently I cranked the heat up more in the garage. Feels like the middle of the Sahara in there now. Pretty sure Im not gonna want to see the electric bill though....all electric heat.

I used to paint external sign cabinets and channel letter returns with rustoleum products. I would spray it in the morning, let it sit in a paint booth at 150 degrees for 10 minutes and then let it cool and sit for 24 hours. After that, they were good and cured enough to be moved around.

Thanks for the info. Ill let it heat for a while and then cool down prior to handling.
