the little metal strip on the door cladding is rusting on all of my doors. But I do have the other style cladding and ground effects from my 93, will they fit? Has anyone else done this? Or any other solutions.

I believe it fits, but doesn't match the boddy lines. I've heard the strip on the SLOs are stainless, which would work for you...

Mine are rusty too. I'm just ripping them off, sanding them down, and repainting them along with my body cladding and bumpers. They don't match the car anyway because ******** owner #1 used white spraypaint and didn't realize that it was a DIFFERENT SHADE of WHITE!!! headbang

I know! Rip off all of the molding and fill all the grooves in the bumpers and cladding in with boddy filler or bondo. Sand and repaint. That might REALLY modernize the look of the SHO...especially a first gen.

Photochop, anyone? :D

Yup...the regular taurus has stainless strips. I found this out when lookin for new ones for my 89 I had. I ruffed them up and painted them...no probs with paint staying on...granted I didn't have the car more than a year after I did that.

I did the same to mine over a year ago. To date, no problems with the paint. There is a specific writeup of this issue on shotimes.com Wasn't a difficult replacement at all.

I just re-used my rusty strips and POR-15'ed the heck out of the rust spots (four coats) and then painted over that. Rust problem solved, and the POR-15 is on there so thick that you don't see the pitting unless you're looking at closely in bright light.
