I plan on running two amps, one for speakers and one for subs

Is it possible to go from the battery to amp 1 positive, then amp 1 negative to amp 2 positive, then amp 2 positive to ground?

...does that work? will the voltage be lower coming out of amp 1 than when it went in? I wish I knew more about electrical equip.

No , it would be plugged in serial , and you might damage your amps.

Best setup would be 2 separate wires from battery, and 2 separate for ground.

Ok setup would be 1 wire , splice in 2 near the amps , then 1 wire to each amps B+ , then 2 separate grounds

Max's idea will work but most people run one large cable from battery to a fuse block in the trunk. This way you will be able to keep the runs shorter. Ground each amp to the same screw, with the same length wire...as close to the amps as possible.
