I just bought an extra set of intake runners for the upcoming EH group buy. As soon as I opened the box I noticed the tops of the runners were rough, bumpy like rust under paint. But it can't be rust ... the runners are aluminum, right?

Anyway, I'll have to do a thourough cleaning of both interior and exterior before I send them off, but could this abnormal texture thing cause problems and should I consider sending the car's existing runners to EH (normal looking exterior ... kinda gold colored, slight texture)?

Thanks

called corrosion it happens when salty spray gets under the pain and corrodes the metal.

Pictures would help.

I'll try to get a few shots of them tomorrow and post back.

I'm familiar with the concept :thumb: However, one doesn't normally associate corrosion with aluminum* ... that's why I had to ask ;)

Thanks for the feedback!

* They are made of aluminum aren't they?

280 grit sandpaper, does wonders! my crossover tube had this "under paint corrosion" and power sanders work too... just sand it to bare metal and repaint it! :thumb:

IIRC, the first couple years, the intakes where made with a softer and shorter finishing process, producing a rougher surface. But If it's THAT noticable, I'd get some grit after it.

Aluminum chloride is what it is. Diluted Hydrochloric acid (Muriatic) will quickly clean it off.

The GEN 3 trunk deck will do this if repainted and not properly surface prepped.

If you have corrosion under the paint the finish is already damaged.
