Hey guys,

I'm in the process of swapping a 3.0 w/MTX out of an 89 into a 92 lincoln continental.
Anyway, the clutch cable was messed up when I got the 89, so while dropping the subframe out I just cut it because I already had a new one. Then I had the subframe down about halfway and found the clutch cable... Yeah... :oogle:

So, now I'm either going to have to ghetto rig the cut shifter cable, find another, or do the rod shifter conversion. My problem with the latter is that I was counting on the cable setup to compensate for me not mounting the shifter exactly where it sat in the taurus. So my question is, how hard would it be to modify the rod setup for the shifter being forward of stock location?

I have a tool kit, I should be good, right? :laugh_ti:

But really I can weld and cut shit with a torch, obviously... :angelnot:

Any other ideas are welcome too...
Tthanks!

I would find another cable, a rod-shifter would require more work to mount. I bet if you post in the wanted section someone has one you could pick up for cheap. **** I think I have one in my garage you could have for shipping...

If you have your heart set on the rod-shifter it would be a matter of measuring really well and cutting it... as long as the tranny isn't at too much of an odd angle in its new home it should work out alright... The crx guys do it all the time on my other forum when swapping teg motors and crap.

Oh yeah and this thread is worthless without pics ;)

I would try to get ahold of a rod shifter and the associated brackets and see what you're up against. Personally, I really like the rod shifter.

While everything is out and apart, you might want to consider a 3.2 conversion. That extra .2 L might be helpful in carting around the extra weight of the Conti.

When are you going to post pictures? :)

Thanks guys. I think I'll stick with the cables for the time being. Right now I need this car to run and I need to save for the np205 for my pickup I know I'm gonna get ***** on. I want to go back later and trick this rig out, but for the moment the only reason for all of it is because I toasted the 3.8 and picked up the SHO for $500 and the subframes swapped straight acrossed. I'll probably add the rod shifter when I go back through it along with the (re upholstered) taurus seats. For the most part it's fallen together except for the difference in wiring between '89 and '92 and hood clearance. Didn't think about that one until later so I'm gonna have to use a hood scoop or get someone to massage the hood out a bit in the middle.

Heres the only pic I have at the moment. I'll take some more when I have her all the way back together and running. I'm embarrassed of how much of a mess my shop is right now to take more pics. BTW if anyone is in the SW Montana area you should come by and help me with wiring! :naughty:
