well it's not really a bolt more like a really long stud with 2 nuts on the end of it...more of JT's good ole ghetto rigging anyhoo....the stud snapped in half and half the bolt is still screwed into the tranny. So now i'm stuck how in the heck am i going to get what's left of the stud out and what should i use now to keep the rod shifter bolted to the tranny? Btw it's the second rod that steadies the rod shifter and not the rod that actually changes the gears inside the tranny

You have a couple of (reasonable) options:

1) use a drill and an easy out
2) drill it out and retap it

Or, if you didn't break it off flush with the tranny you can always vice-grip it and loosen it out...

When you're done, see about talking to Jose about getting a shifter brace...

Is there any part of the bolt/stud/whatever left sticking out of the boss on the tranny that you can grab on to with say a pair of visegrips? The steel bolt (what's usually there anyway) into the aluminum tranny case is usually very easy to get out, and a pair of visegrips might just work with little effort.

If it broke of flush, it gets a whole lot more complicated. There is not a lot of room/material in the boss for proper rethreading most of the time if you're forced to drill it out. Better bet would be to try to find an extractor set and use a sixe smaller than the (M12 I think) bolt size, enough to grab it and at least start it out where you can get a grip on it.

there's some of the bolt left outside the case that i can grab on to. But here's my main problem. Jt used a long threaded rod and couple of bolt to secure it. Now where can i get a long threaded rod at? and what is the size and pitch of it, or does anyone know if there's a bolt that can go there instread? i can get it out just finding something to replace it is what i'm worried about

lows, Home depot or any bigger hardware store should have the threaded rod your looking for. Bring the broken rod in with you so you can match up the thread, I think its M12 X 1.75, but I cant be sure, could be bigger. It may also be possible to get a bolt long enough to work so you dont have to screw around with the threaded rod.

Just a though. If you do find a bolt that will work, I wouldnt go with grade 8. Although its a very strong bolt, its shear strength is not very high (the hardness makes it easier to shear side to side, as its more brittle). I would go with a grade 5 just because its a softer bolt that will not shear as easy (there is room for some flex)

good luck

ok no luck finding the bolt or rod. They don't make thread rod in metric and any m12x1.75 bolt i found was way to short. So what do i do now?

You could try to find a fastener supply place near you, they normally have just about every size bolt, nut, washer, etc. in every grade, both std. and metric.

Worse-case, you could try Beth or Fred or a WTB post to see if anyone has a factory bolt.
