I have a 94' ATX SHO with 184k miles on it and whenever I rev it in park as the RPMs drop the engine cuts off (the car still has electrical power) I have no idea what this could be. HELP(SDPATT ;-) This problem seems to be related to the problem I posted about the car cutting off while I'm turning.

Thanks in advance,
Wes

A little more information may be helpful. It would also be helpful to run the key on, engine off (KOEO) test to retrieve any error codes from the EEC. To learn how to do this with just a short wire and your ignition key, go here.

Are you talking about hitting the ATX rev limiter? It cuts out at about 4k to avoid damaging the Tq convertor. This doesn't mean the engine stops running completely, just that it drops cylinders.

I just reviewed your other postings, and I suspect your torque converter is stalling the car. Have you checked your codes yet?

Sorry I'm so bad at describing car problems, I don't know much about them. The problem is that if I rev to car to say 3k RPMs then release the gas and allow the RPMs to drop, they continue to drop until the engine is "off" and I only have electrical power. I can immediately start the car again and it only shows this problem while driving if I brake very hard. I have not pulled the codes yet, I'm going to try to do that today. Thanks for all the help and advice...even though I'm a goon ;-)

Sounds like a vaccum/tq convertor related thing. May not be a problem, just the way that the car is designed. The car shouldn't die if the motor is healthy, new plugs, wires, no vaccum leaks, etc..but any ATX that is revved up, brought down to idle will dip down below normal base idle speed before coming back up to normal idle speed..
If the motor has some miles on it and some of the maintenance hsn't been performed, this sounds somewhat normal...

Wow ManySHOs, you basically descirbed my SHO. It is an ATX that was not taken care of properly. The check engine light is on (184k with no 60k) I intend to pull the codes soon and find out exactly what all she needs done and then to make SDPATT pull all his hair out trying to help me ;-)

Thanks for all the help and advice,
Wes
