Replaced starter ...now no power

so my starter needed to be replaced...... okay did that and when i tried to start the car it would click by the starter relay like it did before i replaced the starter. so we replaced the starter relay switch and now suddenly the car has no power. the starter and starter relay are getting power to them. im extremely confused and frustrated and don't know what to do next. every where i check power is getting to it...


please help its greatly appreciated

You probably put one or more of the small wires on the wrong starter relay terminal....

no i was very careful when replacing the starter relay to not have that exact problem. i checked all of the fuses and they were all good. im going to go check all the grounds that could have possibly been removed.

checked all the grounds and all of them were connected. " that i could see"

i checked all the fusible links that i could find..... is there any fusible links that are hard to find or are in a tricky spot

anything helps at this point

Check you battery connection. If you still have the stock cruddy terminals on the main battery leads they can appear to be solidly connected but they will actually be making no connection at all.

i cleaned off both terminals and leads.

im truly stumped on what to do next.

Do you have the trigger (small wire) hooked up at the starter?
Is the trigger wire hooked up at the solenoid?
If you "jump" the solenoid, does the starter recieve power?

YES the trigger is connected to the starter and the solenoid correctly

and yes if you jump the starter it starts to kick over

could i have blown a fuse somewhere by replacing the starter solenoid ?
if so where would it be? ive checked all fuses and fusible links that i could find and they all were fine.

im stumped

Take a close-up photo of the starter relay that shows 6-9" of the attached cabling and post it.

While you're at it, identify the year and engine of your car. We are not psychic.

you may not be psychic,

but based on the sig pic, I'd say he's got a 1990 red MTX with a 3.0 in it.

If someone wants help, it's incumbent on them to provide useful and relevant information as to what is being worked on. This needn't become a game of "20 Questions". to get information that should have been provided initially.

Do the wires on your starter look like this?



There's also that small yellow wire to hook up as well. At least you didn't slip one of the wires inbetween the starter and the block like I did, scared the **** out of me when I tried put the terminal back on the post and nearly welded the two together :scared:
