where and for how much can a replacement alternarnator be obtained? I think mine just retired itself, and I havn't found a shop who is willing to touch it for a rebuild. need feedback ASAP. So i can get it on order. Autozone quoted me 170.99. Is there a better deal or better part around?

Assuming it is the proper one for the SHO, I'd say the Autozone one is a good deal. Josh at SHO Nut Performance can get you a remanufactured one from the SHO Shop at a cost of $349 plus shipping.

Yep, I replaced my OEM alternator in June of this year with an Ultima 15526 remanufactured unit with a lifetime warranty for $135.99 + core from O'Reilly Auto Parts. The original had covered 260,000 miles. Not bad.

Scott, I've heard you mention O'Reilly's many times in the past, but had never heard of them since. Are they a chain in the Texas area?? Also, do they have a website?

You can have your alternator rebuilt for around $75. Mine came with a lifetime warranty. The voltage regulator went out. You can do it yourself if you know how and with the proper kit.

Might get a 94 style for earlier, get the mount and electrical connector too, new belt; its a larger, higher amp, more available alternator

O'Reillys started in Springfield, MO. Their stores are located in the Midsouth, Midwest, and towards the Southeast (TN, KY, NW GA, S IN)

I wish there was one closer to my home. I stop at a rural location on customer calls and have always gotten professional parts advise/service. Highly rated!!

Only certain years were Mitsu-made. Honestly, I forget it it's Gen 1's or Gen 2's that were.

My 1991's alternator is the 90 amp Mitsubishi also. There was a different, higher amperage alternator fitted to later 3.0L Gen II SHOs, but I don't remember the model year.

Supposedly:
Gen 1 - 90 amp
Gen 2 - 120 amp

My 89 & 91 alts are identical.

'93 alts were different than 94/95 & the Gen 1's for some reason (shaft dia or backspacing on the pulley required, etc.), if I remember correctly.

I recently bought a 120amp Gen 1 amp from a guy on eBay, along with a Gen 2 starter. Everything's working great. I may end up being a reseller for the guy locally, I like his stuff that much & the price is supposed to be reasonable for me to do so.

What about high output alternators for SHO's? The only one that I can find with a higher then stock output is the 150 amp one that CincSHO offers...

sunny San Juan Bautista,
Ahem. Ask kaoticsho about his custom made alternator. He will hapily give you the number of the guy who made it (or you can search the archives). BIG bux. But maybe the guy can make a more down to earth version for mere mortals at a lower cost.
