This is a great question. With all of the advances in adhesives over the last 10-15 years, it seems like there should be someting that can make a great improvement on a cracked dash. If you find anything, let us know.

Doing whats "best" and doing whats possible...A difference Zach is still learning about.

Zach, I'm assuming he's got a gen1. I assume this because gen2 dash boards don't have nearly the cracking problem seen with g1s. If he had a gen 2, your suggestion may have had at least a little merit since gen2 dashboards are pretty easy to find in decent condition. Gen1s on the other hand...are not.

Stop digging. Please.

Chances of finding an uncracked 20 year old dash (even a taurus), just by strolling up to the yard and having a look around is pretty slim. Then, try removing it and installing it without cracking it. It's just not on my list of things that are possible.

I bought the last new Ford 90-91 Taurus dash in the system a few years ago and guess what, it crack in shipping. The only other real solution is to send a core to Just Dashes and have it rebuilt. That's about $750 plus shipping to and from.

You got very lucky, Rich. But being in Detroit affords the opportunity to find lots of cars. A lot more than the OPs area. I'd wager a guess that if you DID find a few g1s in houston, they'd have a high rate of dash cracks.
